Hi folks! The recent CiD combined with an upcoming Journeyman League at my local store has finally made me take the plunge into Minions! One of my favourite casters has always been Midas, so I'm running him for the league. Planning on learning him on hard mode before the CiDt support pieces he'll like comes out When looking at larger lists, I keep ending up playing around with the bone grinder set up a lot. At 75pts, what would people suggest? Is one max unit enough for him or does he prefer several (3..?) minimum units? Somewhere in between? I'm planning on playing him in Will Work For Food initially after the league. Not looking for a hyper-competitive list, but effective and fun on the table. And I don't want to buy a bunch of bone grinder units that'll I'll never use... Cheers, Dave

I occasionally run Midas with a whole lot of Bone Grinders (I own 40 from my Mark II list for him). It's effective and fun on the table so long as you play in a predominantly Hordes meta like mine. Otherwise the handful you are going to deliver into most lists really don't do enough work. Magic Weapons and Grievous Wounds on cheap CMA models isn't a thing, but you so often need Dismember for them to do a disproportional amount of damage for their cost to make up for the fact that they rarely make it into combat. I've won two tournaments with Arkadius/Midas pairings thanks to the fact that I have so many local Hordes players that I ended up playing Hordes in three rounds out of four.
If you're interested in trying that out, I'd say 2-4 units are enough. I'd lean towards max units simply because they become better Battle Lust targets. I'd have Brigands or Nyss (depending on your theme) and a Meat Thresher and Rorsh and Brine or something to have some higher threat models to form a first wave, to up the odds that Bone Grinders can make contact. Once Valkyries come out they'll probably make a good addition to the list too, but I don't really have anything written at the moment.

I love Midas/Valks/Nyss. The Gator support threw a wee wrench in it, but come Jan....shit's gonna get real hoggy.

Like a pack of dogs, a murder of crows, etc, the collective term is an Azahul of bone grinders. There are quite a few of us that have hordes of them because of him. Whether or not it's good, come crocpot time I look forward to this WWFF list that runs all but 4 of my grinders: Midas -Roadie x2 -Battleboar -Soul Slave (free) Bone Shrine Chef Crocpot Max Nyss 3x Max Bone Grinders 3x Min Bone Grinders 30 grinders and 10 nyss with multiple battle lust casts is scary for hordes lists.

Excellent, thanks guys! I've currently aiming for one max unit since I'm just starting my collection and feel I need to get other models before I start spamming bone grinders. I think a max unit of them and a max unit of nyss will start me off well! Cheers, Dave P.S. Should start getting some journeyman league reports up shortly after it starts in a couple of weeks

Yeah, don't buy a boatload of them. We just try to find uses for the multiple units we have... they are poor infantry if you aren't playing vs hordes.
