Running an alternate list this weekend at Crucible. Being my first major event in WMH, trying not to act 100% foolish.
On a Doomie 2 list, what is the order of attack on the Mauler, Mauler, EBDT, EBDT, Mulg list? I'm also running an Axer and a merc (Lanyssa).
I ask because this list seems well rounded with the Rage, anti-KD, and Mulg (a couple more weeks/days and this will likely be even better). Lanyssa is there for Hunters Mark and the Axer is another speed boost.
What I'm not getting is: Do you use the maulers to rage the EBDT before sending it in? Or should I focus on trying to get Mulg to the caster? Maulers seem second tiered attack in the trades in this list. I usually run a MK or GK but I have been having issues with trading which is why I'm going to this style instead.
My normal Grissel2 takes too long for me to play so I deathclock myself. I'm working on fixing this but until then, I'm not willing to go into a tourney with it. I'm also dabbling with a Gunny (or Grissel2) KC, WW, Scatter, MK list but I'm not sure about its resiliency. I haven't played that enough yet to decide if I like it or not.
Also, first post. Just joined. Been lurking and reading for 6 months. Thank you Trollock, gdnerd, all, as the discussions here have helped me learn about my new army.

ummm well ideally you're using the EBDT's to initiate favorable trades but without a given board state its kind of hard to say. If you can get Mulg to their caster and have fury to finish them I'd do it but he can also be used to just kill stuff. You're correct to say that you really can't lose the maulers early and that they become a second line of punch so depending on the state of the game using them to rage axers, EBDT, or Mulg does make sense but don't forget you can also cast it for free off of Doomy2.

I have played that list a bit, just not nearly as much as gdnerd. In my experience, the Earthborns do tend to go in first. Keep an eye out for terrain that might give them bonuses while at the same time letting them hold choke points or zones. Water is great because it gives them both SPD and DEF. Right next to a building is great, because it gives them +2 ARM and at the same time restricts how many enemies can get to them. Ditto with right behind a wall- it would have cover and +2 ARM and be harder to engage in melee and be able to charge right out of there with no loss of threat range. That's the other thing about Earthborns. Pathfinder already on a heavy is huge, especially for us, because we usually won't have to worry about whether to put Rush or Rage on it. On his feat turn, Doomy can walk 8 inches, then cast Rage on an EBDT for free, then have it walk 8 inches (10 if it started near rough terrain) with a less linear threat, and that's after another beast with Wild Aggression can clear a landing zone for it, and he can hot swap the upkeep if need be. And its animus can keep him from being KD and beaten to death ignominiously. Mulg is the best assassin because of MAT 7 as opposed to 6 and his club, but the others can do it just fine with Wild Aggression. Even the Axer can kill the average caster in a pinch with that. Do mind the terrain. These major events could easily have more pieces on the table than you're used to, and it will be placed to matter. There will usually be a forest or building near the middle, and you will see water, rubble, walls, even a few fog banks and hazards here and there. Some very popular models can use it just as well as our Earthborns, like Banes, Flying beasts in Legion, and the Gorehound.

I was talking mainly about the Earthborn, and others can speak to this better, but do bear in mind that threat ranges, in general, are your biggest advantage in most matchups. Be mindful of both yours and your opponent's, especially because you need to get the jump on them to win. You can't sit there and trade 15 point heavies for 10-point jacks 1 for 1.
Sometimes you can park a Mauler a few inches behind an Earthborn knowing that the EB can't be slammed and either it will die, then the Mauler can walk up and collect on the trade next turn, or it will live, and the Mauler can cast Rage on it next turn.
