The theme lists are out now and I was reading through them when something caught my eye. In Jaws it says you can take a Khador solo (with no restrictions) for every 25 points of jacks. So that means we can take Yuri for free? If so - that is awesome!

Jaws also counters ambush instead of AD.

Well just noticed that Assault Kommandos got added to Winter Guard Kommand. So according to Privateers they are lumped into Winterguard units.
Just my 2cp, -Da Muppet

So basically:
WGK: Added AKs but didn't add a reason to take them. One merc unit & NON-CHARACTER (wtf?!) solo. JotW: No AD changed to No Ambush (still a stupid benefit & they should stop giving ambush as theme benefits to everyone). All solos are free card options now? One merc unit & solo. LegoS: Unchanged. One NON-CHARCATER (wtf?!) merc unit & solo. WoW: Same as insider version. One merc unit & solo. MoW: Very generic, free model for every 20 points. Advanced move for models that don't exist yet.
The non character requirements for merc options in WGK and LegoS seems pretty stupid. I'm not sure what combinations they were afraid of, but they should have restricted those instead of everything.
Wolves theme seems pretty unplayable without additional greylord and/or doom reaver options. Theme benefits don't really seem that good.
MoW theme seems fairly pointless when tankers and MoW battle engines don't exist. Not enough speed fixers either. Needed advanced move on more stuff or an extended deployment zone. Guess we will have to wait and see what other models become available and if they provide the fixes needed...

I wonder if the non-character unit in LoS is to try and preserve the feel of theme as almost entirely melee? The only merc character unit that isn't hybrid melee/ranged is Alexia (just the one handcannon). And of the non-character units, none are widely taken in any lists (Highshields; Sea Dogs for the riflemen; Steelhead riflemen - it's like a list of units which are at best incredibly situational). And Highshields at least keep the shieldwall feel of the list.
But saying mercenary units without ranged attacks would have accomplished the same thing...

I can't believe that Malakov1 still isn't available in Jaws of the Wolf.

I wonder if the non-character unit in LoS is to try and preserve the feel of theme as almost entirely melee? Well, mercs pretty much break the feel of almost every theme to be honest. They should probably drop the whole 'theme force' thing and call them 'formations' or 'list templates' or something... They just simply aren't 'themes' any more. But that said, the character restrictions in the Khador themes make no sense. I mean the list of non-character solos is literally *2* models. They should have just added Bokurs and Tinkers to the list of in theme models, it would have taken less words. Also the point of hiring mercs would be to cover a hole in your own force. So LegoS would make the most sense hiring on some ranged mercs to cover their lack of range threat for example.

I was just in War Room and added character solo mercenaries to my LegoS list just fine. I think the wording is actually [non-character units] or [solo]. At least in War Room, you can add Sylys to a LegoS list just fine.

Yeah, LegoS can have character solos, but not character units. While WGK is the other way.
Neither of which make sense...

I think Alexia1 with IF/BD is what they’re trying to stop. Which is a shame, I don’t think it would OP.
Edit: I was just thumbing through the Heavy Metal theme and noticed that Cygnar can take one mercenary unit and one mercenary battle engine. The only battle engine they have access to is the Siege Crawler. So now they have recursion in the jack theme?

Alexia1 is a real pain in the butt to put spells on.... You have to take the unit with Valachev for a start, then you have to end their activation with Alexia out of formation so you can put the spell on the unit (I don't believe you are allowed to deploy a unit with models out of formation). That means Alexia can't do anything next turn other than move towards Valachev. That's two turns in which Alexia couldn't make a Thrall solo or do anything else (and potentially dies because she can't put damage onto the risen). Unless you decide to kill off Valachev.
You may potentially think it's worth while for an upkeep spell, though you better hope you don't want to swap it to another unit. Personally I really don't see the utility of it let alone how it could be considered over powered in any way.
Sure, Alexia with Battle Lust or Last Stand and a bunch of risen to buy attacks with would be funny. But if it was really over powered people would just run it out of theme to do it...
