Thoughts on the new big guy? Personally, I'm not seeing the front-line survivability, but his kit is interesting.

Seems to be a beast focused caster, probably taking the max husks, a cauldron and shamblers just to fuel him which kind of cuts that plan though, with only 78 points to spend on beasts.

He seems durable enough to me. No caster is REALLY 'front line', what you can get is a caster who doesn't mind taking a regular charge or two. He seems to be in that spot.

Cross posting this here to get y'all's opinions.
I think Barnabas 2 is probably bad as written. Rebuke is super strong against melee infantry, but otherwise I don't think he has much going for him. He has no way to protect himself after he commits, so I don't think he's going to have strong turn-by-turn offensive output. I think you'll Feat to win the game, or remove the opponents ability to Kill Barnabas (effectively winning you the game). He also doesn't have an incredible threat range. It's a respectable 12" if he can arc a Hunter's Mark into the target, but he doesn't have the range or non-linear movement to really threaten assassination until rather late in the game.
That leaves most of what he does as revolving around Execration of Blackest Night (EoBN). The spell looks really strong, especially when you consider you can combine EoBN with Star Crossed from Wrong Eye. Except, it doesn't work on Warjacks. And the game has been moving strongly to favor Warjacks. Which means its a pretty unreliable buff, considering it's basically his whole game.
There's actually a ton of stuff in this packet that specifically doesn't work against Constructs:
Barnabas 2's EoBN Longchops' Trapper Gatorman Husk's Carnivorous Swarm Gatorman Soul Slave's Bone Shaker
To be fair, Trapper and Bone Shaker already existed in this state. Interestingly, the initial explosion on Carnivorous Swarm only harms living models, but the hazard it creates effects living and undead models. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not part of the CID forum so I don't know if/how the boneswarm changed but if we still have swarm barnabas could be pretty durable against infantry and non wold warbeasts

Do you mean that Themes are steadily finding space for Infantry? If so, I agree, and I would say that SR2017 has at least as strong an impact as well. Perhaps I chose my words poorly; I do not believe that the game is continually getting more and more Jack centric, only that the game is quite Jack centric. If Barny2 dropped like this in MkII I don't think his kit would be bad. He would have had bad matchups against Warjack heavy lists, but it's normal to have weakness and Jacks weren't dominating the field. The field today is absolutely dominated by Warmachine, and in a large proportion of Warmachine list pairs there will be a list with a good handful of Jacks in it. Effectively, there's very few list pairs he can drop into and actually do something. Stapling Lanyssa to a War Hog does not a playable Caster make.

So what happens if I use him with the Spirit Couldron, who'll get the corpse token?
Edit: Ok, I just failed to notice it was in the tactical tips. The closest corpse gatherer gains the token.

They gained steady is all. Well, they gained steady, AND the crocpot basically solved the initial problem of the boneswarm which was getting the corpse tokens to become a 15 pow 18 arm light in the first place. All told its not too tough to turn them into a pow 17-21 light beast with the current minions kit. I don't really think barnabus likes them, but rask, maelok, and midas I think are going to be able to get a lot of mileage out of boneswarms assuming the crocpot stays the same.
