Batrep 2. Grim1 (see list above) vs Testament of Menoth
His list (not exact)
3 light jacks (forgot the names, and never made impact in the game)
errants max 2x
knight max x2
a new solo with true sight and range 10 guns
a mekanic (he had point left over)
Scenario: spread the net.
So A sea of weaponmaster dudes with a warlock that can collect souls and provides recursion. Not the best matchup for my army. The only advantage i have is; his threat ranges are bad (8.5 or 9 inch) and I can snack with my heavies and rfp them, thus preventing recursion.
Spread the net is not that ideal for me.
I win the roll and go first. The terrain was not relevant for the batrep so I will leave it out.
Deployment:
Dahliah opposite the enemy rectangular zone, she should be able to hold it.
Bombers on the flanks, mulg in the middle, mauler on the right side, axer between mulg and the left bomber.
Gobbers in the middle, as is my caster
Shaman on the right (oeps that was a mistake)
I should have deployed either the shaman or the gobbers in combination with Dahliah to trigger stealth (with prowl)
round 1 - Trolls
Dahliah and Skar run up the board near the flag, Dahliah had haunting melody up (all game long)
RB does harmonious and walks up
Grim and the axer rush all beasts and walks up the board
Gobber walk up the board and cloud grim, themselves and mulg
Shaman runs up the board next to the right bomber.
Mulg runs as far as possible, but fully within the gobbers cloud
The axer walks up
The left bomber runs up, but not too far to prevent being in run and engage distance
The right bomber toes the right zone
The mauler runs and also toes the zone on the far right side.
Whelps run in behind the bombers
Round 1 - menoth
A wall of weaponmaster models run up the board, but stay out of my beasts threat range and within the testaments control range.
Round 2 - Trolls
I move up Dahliah (not touching the flag) and skar, but not far enough. This is a huge mistake, which will cost me the game later on. And I spray some models to death (which provides the testament with souls)
I stand still and aim (including farstrike) with my left bombers and take out some more models
The same with the right bomber
The RB mantraps some models on the right
mulg advances but I forget to put him toing the round zone (another huge mistake) and I put up his animus
Grim advances a bit, shoots a model to death and arcs 2 times mantrap and kills a bunch of models
The gobbers put down a small cloud, since it is large enough to block of grim.
The mauler moves a bit but stays out of charge range
The axer moves a bit forward but also stays out of charge range.
If I had touched the Flag and put mulg in the round zone the game would have gone very differently..
Round 2 menoth
He has about 20+ focus and returns a lot of models to the battlefield
Moves around a bit and runs his solo with true sight over to the right flank. Which in my opinion was a mistake, since this was the only model that could harm Dahliah with all her buffs up.
Kills my RB with 4 shots from the errants and fails to do any ranged damage what so ever on my beasts
anastasia ambushed on the right flank and kills a single whelp
Round 3 - trolls
Feat time.
Remove fury with whelps from bombers
Skar on the left flank moves up and sprays three models and they die. (should have run him into the zone instead)
The bomber on the left flank murders a lot of models AGAIN
The axer moves in and threshers 4 models to death
Mulg finally moves up and puts up his animus and toes into the zome
Grim feats steps forward and catches a bunch of models in his control of 12
and kills anastasia (go true sight)
mantraps 2 times (yes we are on no focus again) and kills a bunch of models in the center
The bomber on the right drop two bombs and kills almost all errant on the right flank
The mauler runs into the circular zone in the middle.
Still did not sit on the flag and forgot my plan with the right bomber to kill his only solo that was camping his flag... oh well
Round 3 - menoth
Again he has about 20 focus and he rolls out a assasination with his only offensive spell. But 2 missed and an arcane vortex from mulg (yee) and grim is still standing on 4 boxes.
We roll back and continue the grind
Now he feats and kills mulg and the axer and that is it. And returns alot of models (that were not snacked) to the field
Well you get the drift. Menoth wins the game by scenario victory.
Afterthoughts
general:
Weaponmasters hit hard. The matchup was not ideal. This is more my madrak2 list with 40 dudes all RFPíng in BOH
Tactical misplacement of either shaman or gobbers. One of the two should have run with Daliah to provide a trigger for prowl to get stealth
What did i do wrong:
Not camping the flag: cost me atleast 3 points
Not putting mulg into the central zone turn 2: gave 1 or 2 point(s) away. can not remember exactly
Not running Skar into the emeny left ozne (he can take a hit since he is def14 and he is mostly mat/rat6). Gave 1 point away
Not executing my right side bomberplan and killing the solo. Gave 2 points away
the positive:
My attrition was ok. I gave mulg away which should not have been the case.
the bombers on the flank perform like a charm
5 whelps is enough to fuel the bombers (I always load them up in the first 2 rounds if i get the chance) and help with fury management
Spread the net is doable, but do not forget to score
Overall:
I like the list. It can handle infantry spam, but not recursion to well (unless you can remove the recursive element).
The list is fast enough and has ample threat range
Daliah is a good flanking unit to hold a zone vs living melee/ranged threats and it gives me the choice to spread out more.
