He's correct, that model becomes engaged and can't channel.

You have to get her near enougth to shoot, kill something with her rat 5 u propably arent close enouth to aim and that unit cant be too close of his friend,so her arcnode is useless or very very situational

It's not useless, but you do have to be choosey with your targets. Frequently you can target a dude in the back then spin him so he's no longer engaging. Also due to weird wording, the model sticks around for the whole turn so make sure you don't take control of someone who's sitting in a charge lane.

It's great against models that aren't near anything with reach. Winterguard are a great example: they are usually spread out a little, but can't reach each other in melee.

It works well on her feat turn when she is pretty close to invulnerable. You are not going to get a HUGE amount of work done (as others note, you pretty much have to boost the shot) but you can add to your turn of "nope" by spraying some stuff off the table.

Better against some factions that others (bad against factions with lots of reach, or lots of models which want to be base to base - rhulic mercs fall into both categories). It's better when you have a means to remove engaging models - Widowmakers are the obvious choice, but other shooting can do the job. You can also try to set the arc node up - if models are base to base, shoot one of them with an AoE. If one survives, that's now your arcnode target. It's also worth thinking about it as a possible threat. Opponents with important upkeeps do need to be aware of a Hexblast possible coming from 26" from Zerkova1's starting position, which can encourage them to place their models in such a way to minimise the risk of her obtaining an effective arc node. But that might require clumping up, which you can then exploit with sprays, blasts and so on.

You get to change the models facing, so it's a matter of getting something that's behind its buddies or spread out.
Pretty difficult to ever use on hammer dwarves in shield wall, but a reasonable formation for them is groups of 3 (like IFP usually go in). So in such a formation you need to kill 1 and then one of the remaining 2 can be turned such that it's not in melee and used to arc. If they are just in a big brick then it's not going to work, but that means they are vulnerable to slams, sprays and some area effects.
