Hey Guys!
I am looking at hosting a Tournament at my LGS, but we are looking to do something different and maybe abit wacky. We are kinda stuck for ideas.
We do not want something super competitive, but we still want it to be new player friendly.
Anyone have any ideas?

Well, there's always food machine and 'who's the boss?'.
One thing I heard about a while back was a tournament where you bring 1 list with 3 casters and they all have a shared battle group. The army only had jacks or beasts and the point total was equal to the sum jack/beast points.
It can lead to some fun builds.

What about the small board format in the book? Rumble, I think? We had a tournament in that format at our local store and it was a lot of fun. 25 points or so.

Everyone writes a list with, say, 25 warjack or warbeast points. You then arrange to have as many casters available to play as possible and at the start of each round every player has a random caster assigned to their list If doing it for charity you can add stuff like paying to re-roll your/your opponents caster and the like. Cheers, Dave

Imprompto team tournament. All players get (randomly or otherwise) sorted into teams of 3 and compete against the other teams. Look up the HMD pairing system if you're going for this.

My all-time favourite is match-rematch (switching armies for a rematch) from my old WFB days. Makes all those powergamers who rely on their OP netlists to carry the day squirm and cry It requires small armies (so good for a store tournament) or a lot of time unfortunately as you essentially play double amount of battles. The upside is that the champion is really someone who can claim it's him, not his OP army, who wins the games

We did an unlikely allies tournament recently where you get paired with another player at random (15 pt lists) and play together as a team, lose all instances of "faction friendly" from all spells and abilities. It was a ton of fun to play.
Also there is thunderdome, a battle royale with 3 casters/warlocks per player...and nothing else. All have to be from the same faction. So if I brought Cryx, it would be something like Terminus, Asphxious the Hellbringer and warwitch Denegra. They are considered to be part of the battlegroup, all have their feats, you just don't get anything extra like Vociferon.

-Speed machine is the most fun I've ever had in Warmachine (25pts in MK2) 35pts Mangled Metal/Tooth and Claw, 12 min Deathclock. The entire tournament normally takes about as much time as a normal game of Warmachine.
-Highly recommend "Who's the Boss" You don't need to have every caster in the game represented. Just get everyone to bring what they have. It's a blast.
-Highlander. "There can be only one." Single list event. You must have one and only one Solo and Unit. No repeat Warjacks/beasts allowed either. 25-35pts. Highlander encourages creative list building.
