One of my regular opponents just picked up Cryiss and I got trounced by their theme for the first time this week.
The theme gives amazing anti-shooting tech in the form of lots of free shield guard servitors. Being solos they can also easily gum up charge lanes. Additionally, like our excellent Storm Division theme it really only wants already awesome pieces, specifically the TEP. Since it makes the TEP's servitors shield guards too (and they come back every turn) I wasn't even able to thin the servitor swarm effectively with charger and e-leaps. As the icing on the cake he was running Lucant for even more shield guards, deceleration and a +4 armor feat.
I'd love to hear how some of you Swans have been dealing with this monstrosity of a theme. For the record, I don't think the Cryiss stuff should be nerfed or the theme force charged. I just want to have a plan on how to deal with it for next time.
The specific game I described above was:
Lucant - Destruction Initiative - 50pts
- Corollary
- Inverter
- Prime Axiom
TEP
3 Elimination Servitors (Free)
3 Reflex Servitors (Free)
3 Attunement Servitors (Free)
The extra servitors and the drag harpoons on the Prime Axiom complicated the problem and made positioning tricky too. With Watcher on Lucant I couldn't charge the Axiom safely either because of the Inverter with knock down on a mat 6 Pow 20 hit. It all just pushed together right up the table at me.
Haley3 - Heavy Metal - 50pts
- Squire (Free)
- Thorn
- Charger
- Charger
- Stormclad
- Stormclad
Jr - (Free)
- Firefly
Stragewayes (Free)
Nothing special in my list, was just thrown together quickly. Both my opponent and I agreed that a regular Haley3 list with a smoke wall would of been better. However the TEP can still easily spray through the smoke wall though by targeting servitors. Since he had almost no magic weapons he couldn't deal with my echo's very well. So I might run a more traditional haley3 list against him to see how it does. That being said he can easily add magic weapons on a stick with a Optfiex Directive when the game size goes up to 75.
My first thought was that Nemo3 Storm Division would be good into it. Impacts from the lances would work to kill servitors while still getting melee on the huge bases. Additionally the e-leaps and lightning generators would wipe servitors well even with shield guards around. If I need to leap to something specific I can run a firefly in and just spark node off that. Additionally Magnetic Field would stop the drag harpoons on the Axiom.
Kraye in Heavy Metal also came to mind too but I generally run him a bit too shooty as chargers are great & great with him. Chargers had a hard time with the plethora of shield guards though so I'd have to think up something more shooty.
Stormwall/Hurricane are always good in any match up vs drag and knock down too so that is in consideration. I don't normally play it but a Haley2 thornwall list might be quite good into their theme too.
I'd love to hear your ideas on what has worked for you guys against this theme in the past.
