I'm looking at the Winds of Death theme after seeing it pop up in tournament pairings, and am curious how people are building it, what they are dropping it into, and what kind of success they're having. For example:
- Which Warlock? I can see Hexy1, Hexy2, and Rasheth. Any others? What are the trade-offs between these 3?
- All Light Beasts, or do you add a melee "anchor" to the list?
- Battle Engine or no?
- What do you drop this list into, and what do you consider for a pairing?
Thanks!

There was a skorne 1/2 at a semi-recent event were the winner ran a Morghoul2 winds list and the runner up an-almost identical Rasheth list. From murky memory it was all light beasts. 3 shaman, a raider couple of venators units..

So far I'm playing
Rasheth -Cyclops Shaman - Cyclops Shaman - Cyclops Raider - Basilisk Krea
Siege Animantarax
Venator Slingers ( min ) Venator Reivers ( max ) - Command Attachment Venator Reivers ( max ) - Command Attachment Venator Cannon Crew ( free ) Venator Cannon Crew ( free ) Paingiver Beast Handlers ( min )
Extoller Soulward Venator Dakar
I think it's one of the strongest lists I've seen in a long time. Can play into almost anything, to be honest. It's my main drop at the moment, waiting for a second one

I have had my best success with this:
Rasheth -Cannoneer -Cannoneer -Cannoneer -Krea
Venator Slingers max Venator Reivers Max -UA Beast Handlers min
Venator Dakar Venator Dakar Extoller Soulward Extoller Soulward
I have had pretty good success with his list into several opponents but this lists biggest weakness is scenario as none of it wants to get in there and contest zones besides the slingers which are typically just forward arc nodes/chaff.

Hexeris1 - Mammoth - 10 - Archidon - 10 - Agoniser - 6 Venator Dakar - 4 Venator Dakar - 4 Extolled Soulward - 3 Reivers - 15 - Reiver Officer and Standard - 4 Reivers - 15 - Reiver Officer and Standard - 4 Venator Flayer Cannon - 0 Venator Flayer Cannon - 0
Works well against everything but fast melee armies, who I'll drop Xerxis2 5 Battle Engines list.

I honestly think every winds list should start with 2 SA The SA's speed and threat of 13" is only rivaled by Karn himself. The gun has a weakness to small based models but has 2-4 shots per turn and rat 6 and rat 7 will get you hitting most larger targets. Trampling then shooting for a threat of 23" is very big while keeping 15" from the target. The mount having 1" melee range allows you to impact many more targets than most opponents will notice. The tail knocking down targets also gives you a pretty big accuracy fixer due to the cav rule giving you boosted charge to hit attack rolls. So as long as you can charge the high def model it will be knocked down and you are good to go after that. Fully loaded with rage tokens the SA gets 5 high pow attacks 2 lower pow attacks and then 2-4 shots at something that could be knocked down. 10 attacks on average per turn is a big deal. Don't forget you can boost the spear independent attacks before you move if something has really got you blocked in. Soulwards really get a bunch of bang for their guidance buck with the SA. Just wanted to note our turtle moves 14" per turn. One small step for turtle one giant leap for anyone else.
Given all the above and the fact that its points count for free models I think the SA is the best choice of model for any winds of death list.
The SA Weaknesses: Small based models can be a problem so you need to use impact attacks to get more "attacks" and try not to shoot them unless you have to. Trampling should be used as a last resort. Arm 20 jacks can be hard to kill. Bring damage fixer with your caster.

My winds list is
Rasheth Cyclops Brute 8 Cyclops Brute 8 Basilisk Krea 7 Agonizer 6
Venator Dakar 0 Extollers Soulward 3
Siege Anamanterax 17 Siege Anamanterax 17
Venator Reivers 15 Unit attachment 4 Venator Slingers 13 Venator Catapult Crew 0 Venator Catapult Crew 0
The double SA allow zero need of Gladiators which for poorly into this theme but without two SA might still be necessary for far threating heavy hitters.
The double Brutes allow for a very sturdy line of engagement, which I find desperately necessary in a gunline. They buy another turn of shooting. They are very efficient at that job. The SA's are very sturdy as well, though they are too expensive to just throw into the front lines, and it's a shame to waste their threat range and kiting.
The krea and Agonizer fit well with four high arm models for the Agonizer to boost and Rasheth needing ranged protection
