My local community is looking at playing a 3 man team tournament and I'm looking for a nice format. I looked around and I found most of the formats have fixed pairs. Meaning you place your player in a a slot and then he plays with another player in such slot. So pairings aren't really ad hoc. Since this reduce the format in 3 random 1vs1 games were you add the points, it doesn't look to me much of a team tournament. Anyone can point me in the right direction for a more.convenient format more likely to wtc? Thanks.

You can't really do the WTC format with 3 players as it gives Team 1 too much of an advantage; you need to give Team 2 something to work with.
You can try this simple version -
For three v three, Team 1 puts forwards a player, and then team 2 picks one of there three to play it. Team 1 then picks who plays who in the last two matchups.
Do a test run to see how it works out one game night.

This is basically what I'm battling for.
To be honest the team who present the first player is advantaged. After the first pairing is done, the next team to present the player is at disadvantage, since the other team knows there is only one player left and so chose accordingly.
Now if Team 1 makes the first pairing, and is really advantageous, Team 2 will choose 2 other pairings. Maybe not as much good as the first, but still, 2 pairing vs 1.
I was thinking about a system where each team present a covered champion at the same time and then after is revealed, each team pair an opponent, but still after the first pairing, you have the same issue with the following 2, unless you use the same system (that could be a good idea after all).

For three player team tournaments try the HMD method. It's simpler than it sounds:
1) Team A and B meet at tables 1, 2 and 3. They roll off to see who gets table 1 and who gets table 3. (Let's say Team A gets table 1) 2) Team A assigns one of their players to table 1. Team B assigns one of their players to table 3. This is done simultaneously and in secret. 3) The two assigned players are revealed. 4) Team A then chooses one of the two remaining players from Team B to also play on table 1. Team B meanwhile chooses one of the remaining Team A players to also play on table 3. This is done simulltaneously and in secret. 5) The two assigned players are revealed. 6) This leaves one player from each team left over. They will be playing on table 2.

The last 2 methods are basically the same aren't they? Basically what I was thinking of.
Ok I see my line of thought was right.

Hmm, didn't see Zich post. But yeah, HMD is the way to go for 3 person teams.
