So first game of MK3 and decided to throw full pelt into a 75pt game against a friends Skorne and just see what could be learned and though we both made a few mistakes and got some questions it was a good game and let me try out some new stuff to see if it was worth getting.
So played Scenario 5 from the new Steamroller ruleset, which has 2 circle zones and 2 flags.
I had:
Rask (Blindwater theme)
- 2 Wrastler (one proxied by Snapjaw)
- 1 Bullsnapper (free)
3 max units of posse
1 unit of bog trog shamblers
3 groups of River raiders (proxied by troll whelps - one group for free)
Totem hunter (free)
Skorne
- Tyrant Xerxis
- Tiberion
- Molik Karn
- Agoniser
2 units of paingivers
max unit of Ferox
Tyrant Rhadeim
Siege Animantarax
So we set up and I got to go first:
So Totem hunter ran up to the flag (he had Prey on the agoniser as I remember them being annoying in MK2) the rest of the army advanced. Rask gave Fury to the centre unit of Posse and admonition on himself.
The Skorne went full pelt forward to match, putting Defenders ward on the Ferox and placing Xersis in BTB with their flag.
This was all a bit too close, so I advanced cautiously, Rask popped his Feat and the Totem hunter retreated to behind the Furied posse to hide in a forest. A couple of the River Raiders charged the Ferox and shot their guns about with one reeling in behind Tyrant Rhadeim. Posse just toed the zone.
The Skorne response was just as aggressive as he popped feat giving everything an extra dice of damage and stirred the blood on the Ferox, and then jumped all the ferox into various posse (we later learned that some of the couldn't have jumped due to being in combat with river raiders.) and killed 2 of them, (Rask used admonition to get out of their so he wasn't attacked as well) whilst the Siege Animantarax trampled down and managed to kill 2 of the posse. Tyrant Rhadeim moved away and took a free strike from the river raider at POW6 but the little chap pulled through and did 4 damage to the solo teaching him not to ignore these little chaps (and more importantly give him -2STR and -2DEF) he then jumped to get to the totem hunter (again shouldn't have been able to do this.) and killed him then armour piercing attacked the wrastler and took out his mind and spirit - ouch. So by the end of the turn I lost a couple of river raiders, 4 possem the totem hunter and a badly hurt wrastler. At this stage I totally forgot that posse had innate tough and didn't make any checks. My opponent got 1VP for his flag.
Ok things where getting serious, Rask healed up the wrastler, put Rage on it and for some reason I thought he only had 1 Fury left even though I dropped Fury for some unknown reason. River raiders shot the battle engine and lowered it to DEF8. The Wrastler went in and ripped it apart with plenty of Fury left to spare. The posse engaged the Ferox but between DEF15 and ARM 23 (feat, defenders ward and perhaps something else) and dodge they didn't injure or kill any of them which was a bit sad. The Ferrox solo got destroyed by Bog trog shamblers charging in. I remembered to send a river raider in to contest his flag so no VP.
Ferox kept killing off posse, Molik Karn went in killed the wrastler and 2 posse almost clearing the left zone, Tiberion just bumbled about moving up and looking aggresive and he scored 1VP for his flag.
Ok things where looking bad, the posse where just pillow fisting about the left flank had dissapeared and their was still a whole lot of skorne to deal with. I did manage to get a suitable amount of bog trog shamblers this turn which I placed just behind his Agoniser- ha ha!
Rask was annoyed with the Ferox and rightly so, so he stood still aimed and got the 10 he needed to Strip defenders ward off them (DEF19 as in combat) and put Fury on the shamblers. They charge/moved and ripped the Agoniser apart along with some of the ferox. The posse then finished the rest off bar 1 who was still contesting the darn flag! (this lost me the game but I hadn't realised yet.) Two posse moved to intercept Tiberion whist the Wrastler got into posistion to swat it off the board the following turn. That and not contesting his flag again netted him another VP getting him to 3.
With that he simply killed the last posse in the left zone with molik karn, and ended their getting 1 VP for the left zone and 1VP for his flag winning 5-0.
All in all a good game and decent reminder of what Gators can do, and If i had remembered to contest his flag would have got another round which would have been all sorts of interesting with nearly 20 furied shamblers near Xersis (And more importantly the Bokur) we prob would have had to go for a assassination victory.
Couple of questions came up in this game but will do a seperate thread for that.
