To answer some of the question: How often is my EBDT near an obstruction? All the time. The new scenary guidelines mean I'm disappointed if he can't [ This is pretty surprising. My meta I rarely see obstructions in relevant places!

Wow. Do they use the new steamroller guidelines?
The terrain really makes the Raiders even more amazing too. With advance deployment they can easily make it to cover of some kind. In a game I played last night 5 of them were in a bunker with cover and the rest were in a Forrest with concealment. A unit of Retribution archers only forced two tough rolls and I rolled one. That's a great spot to be in.

From what I've read in CID, themes will be able to take one minion unit and one minion solo regardless.
So we can take the Feralgheist or Gremlin Swarm AND the Swamp Gobbers. Flag and zone contesting for 4-5 points. Not a bad investment.

Fair enough and a few others have said the same, but Whelps are 5 points in and of themselves and have neither Stealth nor Incorporeal. Plus you'd want them to hang out near the beasts so they can be used for Fury management/snacking as they're meant to be.
I would think the Whelps are too valuable to the battlegroup to have them away on the other side of the field contesting a zone.

Follow up question to generate discussion - how valuable is a screen to a battlegroup?
More specifically, do you bring an infantry screen in a beast heavy PoD style list and if so, what?
I've hardly ever screened with my infantry, normally have them flank or take a zone the BG can't get to. Yet I've always felt the BG needs a screen to give them time to get up the board and/or survive initial contact in order to counter attack.
What's your experience/advice?

In PoD I do not often take an infantry screen. I rely on ranged first strike to whittle. I have fielded Runeshapers, but prefer them as later game POW 14 guns, or MAT fixer for a Bomber when the melee crunch comes.
After a Bomber/ranged warlock has messed up the leading warjack/warbeast, the EBDT with Earth's Blessing is most often my 'lure'/screening warbeast. With premeasuring, I can usually provide a certainty that only ONE warjack/warbeast will get to him next turn, and usually the EBDT will survive that, especially with a few free Whelps popping into place.
It gets a little dicey-er when faced with Vengeance-ing Sentinels and the like.
Of all TB's models, my EBDT is most often the model I find easiest to deploy first, because his move/positioning will be towards most beneficial terrain.
I'm tempted to buy a third EBDT for something like below:
POD 75 (Ragnor 1) Ragnor Skysplitter, The Runemaster [+30] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Mountain King [36] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(4)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Dhunian Knot [6] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] Trollkin Runeshapers [9]
