I got to watch a game and talked to Oz for a bit. They are still play testing somethings but here's some info I hope you all find useful. - You will build a 20 or 25 point list consisting of solos, units, and light warjacks/warbeasts
- The game will use alternate activations (Once all models have finished a new round begins)
- Terrain will be 8 pieces minimum with 10 minimum recommended
- There will be 6 scenarios and more to come in NQ
- There is a shared players deck that you pull from to make up your hand which is the core of the game's flavor (I think it was 3-4 cards for 20 points and 5 cards for 25 points)
- The balancing act of the game is the cards in the players hands. Weaker units will give you a bonus to have extra card(s) while stronger units will deduct from your hand (So Player A is using Kriel Warriors unit which give +1 to your hand while Player B is using Kayazy Eliminators which will deduct -2 to his hand) So the more self sufficient a unit is, you will usually be punished through that mechanic.
- The cards have different abilities and kind of act as your pseudo caster since it can help buff/debuff/let things charge for free etc.
- After you use a card you can draw up another card up to your allowed amount dictated by the models/units of your list.
The game looks really fun and is much lighter and great for newer players. The cards keep the game interesting and dynamic. Best of all you can totally setup cities to fight in (Hello Mordheim) SaveSave

I didn't get to see that far. I believe he ran a demo just showing the game mechanics off so I don't think he used a scenario than. SaveSave

Is it still dice-based, or are just the cards used now?

Is it still dice-based, or are just the cards used now? NQ has a write up. Dice based. All the stats on the cards allowed remain the same. Small and Medium only (does sound like <sad khador> that light jacks will be allowed - but with limited focus and no spells their value remains to be seen. Points to build same as points. FA 1. So you can BRING a full unit of IFPs....but that would be near your entire points. Alternating MODEL activation. I guess you will put down beads or something to note who has gone. Unclear what happens when, for example, there are 7 more risen to go after you opponent has activated everything.....and of course that ASSUMES Alexia is legal (they flat out said that some models would not be allowed). It sounds like a blast. I would assume it will help their sales - as this would definately probably clock in under an hour depending on how the scenarios are structures. Oh - one more thing - models harder to kill. upon disabled roll D6. Depending on roll you actually are destroyed or you are knocked down...or you are knocked down and might die if you roll a 1-2 next activation. Might be getting that screwed up but basic concept.

Since having 4 different threads all talking about Company of Irons only makes confusion, I merged them all in a single thread.
Please, continue to discuss CoI here and not open more topics.

The boxed set comes with cardboard activation tokens to track what models have gone. The core game mechanic is still warmachine so you just build your list/use stats in war room if desired.

Played a game of it and the scenario I played was similar is layout to Incursion (201X-2016 Steamroller scenario), with an 50mm, undamageable, untargetable model (positioned like the left and right flags in incursion) and a flag in the middle. A player scored a point for each scenario piece that they had a model in base with and that was not being contested (enemy model within 4"). Don't recall how many points were required for victory, as the game ended due to just about everything on one players team being destroyed. Very fun.

Some rules I heard were:
- Attacks made from more than 8" away suffer -2 to attack rolls. - When models are knocked down, their DEF does not become 5 when being targeted by range and magic. Ranged and magic ttacks made from more than 0.5" away must still hit the full DEF of the target. Additionally, models that are targeted by ranged or magic attacks from more than 0.5" away while knocked down benefit from cover. - Models with immunity to certain damage types take one less die of damage from the damage type rather than no damage. - Models with CRA get +1 for each other model with CRA and that is within 1" of the attacking model (I believe this only applies to models in their "unit", but not cetain). - Abilities like Prey, mini-feats, Prayers and the like will only affect models within" X radius of whichever model performs the ability. - If you bring a warbeast, your commander gains the Beast Warden ability. I believe they perform "drives" like those of jack marshals, as well as can be "driven" to use their animus.

I was hoping for more thematic fun stuff.

I just wrote up an account of my demo game at L&L here. I'd say it was a fun game. Oz was running lots of demo games at once, and it was a little noisy, so I missed some things, but I think I got the gist of it. Overall, I think Company of Iron hits the right spot. It's perfect to play between matches of Warmahordes (when waiting for someone to finish up a game so you can play them). You can pretty much make an army out of the stuff you already have out and just play. Once you know the rules it will be quick and fun, while offering some tactical interest.

It definitely sounds Necromunda-inspired, and potentially quite awesome.

Seems like a good way to use my Pirates. They've been collecting dust since last July.
