Hello all,
I'm preparing a Dark Host Scaverous attrition list. Goal is to use obnoxiously high armour (up to 22 vs shooting, depending which buffs active) from Death Ward & Bane Knights to push into the opponent, then outclass / overwhelm them in melee. I entered the following into a small tourney and most opponents had no answer, won the event. Once Dark Host is released, prowl and clouds will help me close even more. Depending on details, I might swap Knights for a second unit of Warriors with free UA and add a pistol wraith for spot removal, or else go for a unit of riders.
Cryx - Scaverous bane spam
Theme: No Theme Selected (will be Dark Host once released)
75 / 75 Army
Fuel Cache - Steamroller Objective
Lord Exhumator Scaverous - WJ: +27
- Erebus - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 16) (May swap for Desecrator)
- Deathripper - PC: 6 (Battlegroup Points Used: 6)
- Stalker - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 5)
Wraith Engine - PC: 15
Bane Lord Tartarus - PC: 6
Bane Knights - Leader & 9 Grunts: 15
Bane Knights - Leader & 9 Grunts: 15
Bane Warriors - Leader & 9 Grunts: 16
- Bane Warrior Officer & Standard - Officer & Standard: 5
Depending on opponent, Death Ward can go on a central knights unit (with other one deploying behind terrain on flank) or Warrior unit (if only POW10s, Knights should be safe even without DW). Scaverous solves most other problems of banes, extending delivery, doing control, light arm debuff, or sniping solos / infantry with Feast of Worms.
Warriors are great with tough and respawning D3+1 once they get past shooting. Enemy arm should crumble, and most non-warjack guns can't hurt the advancing baneswarm.
So the combination of numbers, high arm, and Scaverous' problem solving seemed to do well so far. It will also win the attrition battle against most warjacks / warbeasts, and I think it will do well into most infantry once it closes. I thought about the things it would struggle against and came up with the following:
- High POW light infantry: especially with multiple attacks who might out-fight Banes (eg Fennblades with vengeance, Berzerk Doom Reavers, Sea Dogs / Revenants)
- really obnoxious control casters and feats (Denny1, Hexeris1)
- Heavy arm debuffs (Denny1 level)
- Army-wide continuous effects (eg Feora1, venoms, Bile / Bloat Thralls)
- Multiple boostable or very high POW sprays (TEP, cephalyx overlords with parasite)
A lot of these are features of the good old fashioned Cryx Drop
But I'm not sure what that looks like any more.
Who do you think would make a good pairing for a Dark Host arm-spam list?
