I was in the finals with the Swedish "team Tom Guan", the merc player.
From what I remember it was Scorn with murder kittehs and Rasheth shooting line. Cannae remember about the third. But it didn't include murder kittehs I can remember.
The final was a 2:3 to them.
I played Thexus into Makaeda, and good god, the dice failed me. Wreckers threshing 3 kittehs, and Alexia burning through 20 risen without killing a single kitteh was the most egregious moment of fail. I had feated to make nice circle shaped landing spots with multiple kittehs in range for Alexia and a Wrecker to force kills, and I had an assasination with adrenaline rush drudges lined up if I could clear 1 kitteh. With Alexia, he rolled 6 tough rolls, and I didn't roll above a 6 on the damage roll 3 times in a row. Threshering wreckers failed even to make him stay death because of the tough rolls. It was a well fought game, but if the dice hate you, it can swing in a terrible direction. It out attritioned Thexus...
The other matchup we lost which we really shouldn't have was our skorne player, who explained to us all how hexy was his ghost fleet drop, he promptly forgot that the other guy had grevious wounds, and dropped kittehs into ghost fleet. It went about as well as you might imagine.
The cygnar mirror matchup we won as well which was great, can't really remember much more right now, but happy to write it all up if people are interested.

Also, I don't know how influential was the psychological aspect of having a team captain asking "Who wants to fight Skorne?" and having a bunch of overconfident members raise their hand. Do you think someone still believes Skorne is a poor faction, post-errata ? oO There are goobers out there that believe the only way to be competitive is by running Theme Forces, and since Skorne only has the one, and "it's not too good" I'm guessing there are quite a few that will probably think too highly of their odds. So yes.

People will quit underestimating Skorne when they get the Prat theme and the Thundercats list goes from "Kinda Borked" to "Ludicrous Speed."

If the skorne players are smart, they will explore the praetorian theme more than just double cats. most of the skorne stuff is on the tipping edge of going from "pretty good, they all have niches" to "really good". for example, if you take the basic template of themes that have free UAs for 20 points of units, you could get 3 full units of swordsmen with 2 free UAs and 1 paid UA for 44 points. obviously thats a bit spammy, but you could mix and match with keltarii, karax, ferox and support to have pretty strong infantry lists in skorne

I'm a Skorne player. I'm extremely glad to see my faction do so well. There were 6! skorne lists in the top teams. Taken together they show a very revealing picture of the Skorne Misconception. Look at those battle groups. There are very, very few Titans. Supposedly they're the main faction chassis. Also, the Agonizer isn't present. Even the Krea is only in half of the lists. It's the Cyclops chassis that's all over the place. The Cyclops! Even Savages show up.
Reivers and Ferox were already known to be some of our faction's best stuff. Not surprised to see them everywhere. Shaman spam popped up as an idea occasionally, but never saw much implementation. I had a healthy curiosity to try out multiple shamans, but had too much else to buy for my faction to get around to it yet.
The take away is get away from Titans. The question is why?

Because the purpose of themes is to make good lists better, as we all know. I don't think that is at all a consideration when they make themes. Perhaps when they decide which to release first but apparently not even then. I don't think that themes are intended to balance factions internally or among each other. They are there partly for fluff reasons but mainly to mitigate faction bloat.
