Round 1 - Ghost Fleet under Denny1 (WIN)
Dropped Butcher as he was the designated GF drop. Ultimately won on Clock. Biggest issue was getting the Maurader into the WraithEngine with Magic Weapons handed out by the Armory. It was a great game. I had about a minute left on my clock when my opponent clocked. And I will point out - when playing with an opponent who insists on using Warroom you are smart to clock over to him when recording the damage done to your jacks. Sorry PP - cards are SO much faster and it matters a great deal. I am not going to lose 10-15-20 seconds a turn as we fiddle with Warroom for each attack and damage. He didn't have that many bone chickens/jacks on the table but still. Not on my clock when a win condition for the list is clocking me.
The lack of SHOOTING recurrsion did matter. The Cun Carriage can get it done but you run into the issue of getting "jammed" by blackbanes for as I read the rules you can't be on top of them as you start the impact attacks. So lots of shooting and then lots of rev's brought back. S2 remains the best drop, BY FAR, into it.
Game 2 (LOST) Damiano, Kingsmaker List. Double Steelhead Cav (lost) in linebreak - my most hated scenario
Dropped Hark. Really came down to 3 mini-games. ON the left Boomhowlers made a RIDICULOUS number of tough checks (and course an amry with ambush and speed LOVES linebreaker). The center was largely a standoff - thanks for my dumbness of not targeting Raluk earlier to get ride of the repairing so I could get rid of his jacks. ON the right ultimately Jugger kept wiffing on sixes to hit Steelheads or rolling ridiculously low on damage. YOu wouldn't believe the number of 4s I rolled. Plus I forgot the key rule here - kill ALL the halbies - so that they lose flank. I still am trying to figure out how to use the Manhuter to any good effect. Be interesting to see adaptations I need to make in SR 2017. But again, if you are reading this take it as a reminder - kill the halbies!!
Game 3 (Won) Caine3 (Incursion)
Dropped Butcher because of Sac Pawn. Worked out fine. Ultimately used my opponents fear of my jacks and Butcher to my advantage - keeping the big boy alive and then snipping out the required control points so that in a weird game I killed exactly ZERO army points (A few trenchers, the Caine unit member with the rifle) but ultimately the fear of getting his jacks tied up by mine won the day. Just a good reminder - against a heavy shooting list that tries to fully maximize Caine3's feat just run your jacks as fast as you can DIRECTLY at his - because one tied up you are near golden.
Game 4 (Lost) Rahn
Given where things stood it looked like 4th place at best for me. Plus a good opponent (KC masters champion and honestly a guy who I don't really enjoy playing against - I believe the feeling is mutual). So I didn't care that much. Since 2 games with Butcher I dropped Hark.
So in a typical broken anti-Khador game TK and Slams and Forceblasts and other move you stuff was used to great effect to get a 4-1 win on Scenario. Probably my fault - I should have probably dropped fun Carriage and while TK would have been in play none of the rest of the stuff would have mattered much. Could have kept it working fine, dropping rough terrain and then sniping out the kittens with mittens as need be to keep the zone cleared. But I don't have much Rahn experience in MK3 so a good learning experience.
2-2. Could have been better but a good competitive group and it was a fun fully day of warmachine. The big lessons you may want to take away is that 1) Butcher3 in WG theme with the fun carriage CAN work into ghost fleet. You need to be smart but it can be done. 2) Kill Steelhead Halbies for the win. 3) Dont' drop Hark when Butcher 3 would be a LOT better ;-)
Now off to garden and help wife with setting up her classroom. Happy Happy Joy Joy.
