Hey all, glad to have a forum. Recently collected Venethrax and six ripjaws through dumb luck and wanted to know if anyone had experience with ripjaw spam. Built a list that looks pretty funny but not sure how successful it could be.
Venethrax -WSC -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Stalker -Stalker -Scavenger -Scavenger -Slayer -Slayer
I've never played a spam list like this before but it seems pretty full tilt on hordes. I assume the idea is that between TV and Powerup there's not a huge need to allocate except when wanting to really frontload some dps, and otherwise TK targets around like its a bad habit and look for assasination. Anyone with experience managing this much mangled metal? Any particular matchups this wants to go into?

Thats looks similar to a skarre1 ripjaw list. While not having any experience with either I would imagine Venny would prefer models that have multiple attacks for TV. My reasoning is that the milage you would get out of the spell would increase with every extra attack that you were able to boost for free. The ripjaws wouldnt gain the bonus of Powerful Attack because of the free boosted to hit against living and the free boosted damage for charge. So then you are stuck with focus that you will want to spend and you will kick yourself if you roll crit on that second attack and not have extra focus for the boosted damage. So you allowcate for the what if. Not knocking your list. Seems fun and i enjoy venny. But if you are building a list to make ripjaws just disgstusting then pskarre is your girl. Im curious to find out how he runs them though! So keep us updated!

If your goal is to make a LOT of countercharges with cheap lights, I'd actually consider Helldivers instead (Cheap, single attack beaters with strong grids) If you're fishing for those crits with TV, it has some play, though Skarre has it a little better.

Plus that sweet sweet +5STR under feat. ps15 arm piercing would be a fun roll. escpecially boosted. i think thats like 16 damage on arm 20 for average 3d6?

Ah, good point. I made a pSkarre list that does the same but fits in orin midwinter with some scrap thralls for Rit Sac and a Skarlock in place of the WSC. To be honest I had played the crap out of pSkarre in mk2 but always with dudespam. It got old. Would be nice to revisit with a powered up ripjaw jack force. Will eventually try both and let you know how they turn out.
skarre skarlock 6ripjaw 2slayer 2stalker 2scav orin scrap thralls

So last night I was prepping for my SR today, having fully thought out a strategy Gaspy3 brick list to go along with my mort+kraken list and about 12:30 decided to say F it. I felt like the Gaspy3 build would be technical to play for my first SR and decided to scrap it for the pSkarre Ripjaw build. Holy guac guys, that S is fun. Here are the two lists I ran with:
Mort -Dery -Kraken -Malice -Bara -Cankerworm -Stalker -Stalker Scrap Thrall Scrap Thrall Ragman
pSkarre -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Ripjaw -Helldiver -Helldiver -Slayer -Inflictor Scrap Thrall Scrap Thrall Machine Wraith
Mort v Kreoss2 So kraken with Tune Up is awesome. He ran exemplar spam and one Hellblaster shot with a Stalker managed to dismantled a unit and two solos, giving me the whole right flank. The other stalker harassed his left side and got 6 exemplars on his own. Kraken shots allowed Malice to overrun and get into position for a sick drag on the Avatar, but he had IR up but and I didn't account for his anti-push tech in the moment. Kraken eventually put down Kreoss at range from a pow17 hellblaster direct it with flayer follow up. This game was closer than it should have been due to dumb decision making on my part, but notched my first SR win which was pretty cool. Thank you Deryliss, for all that you do. I think Mort+Dery+Kraken+Malice is such a gross combo that can handle infantry and heavy spam decently well, and will probably become more prevalent if metas shift to more combined arms.
pSkarre ripjaw First game was against Zadesh (sp). It was my first time playing this list and didnt realize I could still boost the attack roll and it would give me 4d6. Nontheless, I scored mega crits across all my attacks and ripped through some heavies. My opponent ended up clocking out but winning on points, and on my turn before he clocked out I placed my models but I didn't realize Warcasters don't contest, so he ended up scoring enough to win the following turn. Some people watching said they thought, "oh man... he doesn't know they don't contest..." as I was placing Skarre but I'm glad they didn't say anything. Those are the kind of lessons that make sure you never make the mistake again.
Second game was against Thuxulus where again the Ripjaws went to town on some heavies, eliminating 3 subduers and a bunch of solos. I was in a very strong position but ended up misplacing Skarre, ending in an assasination run. Relatedly, I misstated Skarre's defense at 15 rather than 16, which resulted in a TK landing and not missing. I reasoned it out that she had a little too much beer the night before and stayed up gluing models together (ssserrrioulsy stalkers need a plastic kit) so her defense was a little weathered. It happens.
All in all, was awesome. I'm going to be trying more stalker ripjaw armies as that was super awesome. I lost both games due to my own mistakes and not the list's shortcomings so I still feel its pretty strong. The helldivers didn't do much but I don't think I used them correctly. I think under feat protection + dig in + the ability to kind of pop up where you want them too (not nearly as good as mk2) they might have some space in the list. Going to consider scrapping for 2 scavengers instead I think and probably drop the MW for the points.
