Recent scenario changes (only solos can cap flags, specific infantry and jack/beast zones) as well as my own personal goal of trying to build a balanced list (e.g. half battlegroup, half other / half melee, half ranged) have led me to revisit our infantry options.
Even in a faction of synergies and bricking up because of the stone, I'm finding more and more scenario play requires me to have two parts of the army that can work independently from each other if they need to.
Ideally I'd like to max out one of our elite infantry units and perhaps even give it some support. The idea being they can take care of one part of the board/zones while the battlegroup takes care of another.
So that leaves me looking at Champions, Warders and Sons of Bragg. Although I expect a popular opinion would be to throw in the full Fennblade package.
I however haven't had any table experience with those options. I proxied min. Warders once (they got Preyed by Brigands and it felt like the bonus I payed a lot for was completely negated by the bonus he got cheap).
Out of the above I'm leaning towards max Warders with a Sorcerer attached. 20 points, ARM 19, 25 boxes. That should hold a zone for a while, right?
SoB I'm not sure about, they seem expensive and perhaps fragile. Champs ... I don't get the DEF boost in melee. I'd rather have it on the approach.
What's everyone else's experience been? Are Warders still our go to elite infantry? Does splitting army build in half in order to handle separate sides of the table make sense?
All opinions welcome.
