In preparing for a team tournament, me and a buddy played Harkevich vs. Fyanna2 yesterday. Long story later, short story: I lost. Then we switched factions. After deployment he looked over and said: "I only see assassination as a win condition, and you can deny that easily". He gave up top of two.
The sad thing is: I think Fyanna2 is our best Khador answer. Before this game, I had beaten Karchev twice by leveraging my superior mobility against him. That doesn't work against Harkevich. I thought the Harkevich game would be 60-40 in Khador's favor, after playing it it feels more like 70-30 at best.
For the team tournament, we decided I can't play into Khador, period. I'm actually thinking of switching back to Cygnar - as of right now, I feel more like a burden than a boon to my team when playing Legion.
Faction switching seems like a drastic choice, but with Cryx getting better and Legion struggling against them as well, it seems like a smart move. I'm just not seeing Legion anywhere near the top of the pile, and struggling against some of the better factions. Am I wrong in this assessment? Do you have a better Harkevich answer on hand?
Anyway, short batrep! I was playing:
Fyanna2, 3 Angelius, 2 Neraphs, 1 Seraph, 1 Naga, 1 Harrier, 2 Sorceresses, 2 Forsaken, 2 Shepherds, Spell Martyr
Versus:
Harkevich, 2 Juggernauts, 3 Kodiaks, 2 Marauders, 1 Rager, 2 Forge Seers, Widowmakers, Widowmaker Marksman
I win the die roll and go first. I want to bait out his feat, then retreat. He has no shooting that can significantly hurt my beasts, so I slipstream the Angelius with Fury and the one with Admonition up and run them so I'm at the 23" line with them. The rest of the beasts follow. Forsaken and Sorceress go into a trench.
He runs up his jacks and feats. His widowmaker marksman lands a lucky shot on the forsaken in the trench and kills her.
T2, I retreat to more than 10" of his jacks. Angelius with admonition goes in to kill a widowmaker and overtakes away.
His turn, he triggers admonition, I retreat the angelius. He still manages to charge my objective and get a couple hits on the angelius this way. Kills the objective and scores to 2-0.
My turn, I go in and kill two heavies. I also feat. I debate using Gallows on Harkevich, but can't get an angle as he put his Rager somewhat in front of him. After this, he is now keenly aware of this threat and never gives me the opportunity again. I free a zone and kill his objective, scoring to 2-2.
His turn, he goes in with his jack wall again and kills a Neraph and an Angelius, despite me dodging whenever I get the chance. He lands crit stationaries with his juggernauts to kill my beasts, and also uses the vent Steam on the Kodiaks to hurt some more.
This is where I realize that his feat gives him a free turn, while my feat only dampens his attack. We've now both taken out two heavies each, but he has more of them, and without our feats he has an easier time killing mine. Basically, this is already where I lost. We play on until the end, I manage to take out two or three more jacks before he wipes out my battlegroup and I concede.
Then we switch sides, game goes the same for turn one, he decides to try and see if he can get some damage in during harkevich's feat. He charges one Juggernaut with the fury'd angelius and takes out Cortex and main weapon, but leaves him standing. Then he switches Fury around and gallows the other Juggernaut into chargerange, then sadly misses the charging armor pierce attack and despite getting three beasts in, leaves the second Juggernaut healthy. With only half a jack gone, and Harkevich camping behind a wall with a Rager side-by-side, there will be no chance for assassination later and we immediately call it quits.
