For the briefest of moments, I hoped you had reviewed the new Kazaam movie.
Man, if I were a billionaire, I’d finance so many awful movies; it would be great.

I was almost ready to prime another model I've been prepping for another friend's birthday (start of the year is birthday season apparently), when I accidentally broke some small pieces off. I'm going to try to fix them, but I don't think I'll have it ready in time. It will just have to be a late present I guess. Also I knocked out a quick review for the new Jason Statham movie: soulsamurairants.blogspot.com/2023/04/operation-fortune-ruse-de-guerre-review.html

I modeled up some replacements for the broken parts from my last print. Then when I went to print them the printer developed an issue. I have contacted the manufacturer for support, but... sigh. This is going to be a VERY late birthday present, if at all.

You seem to have a lot of problems with your printer!

You seem to have a lot of problems with your printer! Comes with the territory. Actually the resin printer is has been fairly trouble-free for a while, it's the PLA printer that usually has me tearing my hair out. Seems the LCDs on resin printers are seen as consumable items, so having to replace one is no big surprise.

You seem to have a lot of problems with your printer! Printers of all kinds are temperamental beasts that can just stop working for no Firetrucking reason.

Yep. Having said that, and I'm scared to say this in case I jinx myself: my PLA printer has not been doing too bad lately. Occasionaly bed levelling issues have occured, but that's unsurprising since I've had to move it around a couple of times. I was having an issue with blobbies, but after following some advice on Discord (to tighten the nozzle down when the print head is hot) I haven't seemed to have that issue recently. I might start 3D printing terrain again if I have time. Just wish I could actually get around to painting any of it.
I am talking to the support for the resin printer, probably going to have to buy a new screen. I've been very happy with the printer, but their replacement screens are like twice the price of comparable screens from other manufacturers. I am actually VERY tempted to buy a bigger printer with the same print quality (and same cost for replacement screens), since lately I've been trying to print much larger models and struggling with the small print area of mine. Pretty sure I'll pull the trigger when my next salary comes in.
My friend, who literally just got into 3D printing last week with my help, agreed to print the parts I need to repair the model for me. I really want this thing done. Meanwhile I MIGHT actually be able to do some painting today. In between visits to the vet ofc. Sigh.

Well, after prodding the LCD connector cable, I was able to get a couple of successful prints, so that's good. Let's hope it keeps working. I was able to print and prep the replacement parts, using pins to reinforce them. I found that if I bent the pins first, I could "thread" them through the holes in the printed parts BEFORE curing the parts, so the resin was still soft and would bend around the pin easily.
However after all that I realised the 0.6mm pins I was using were too short, so now I need to repeat the process for longer 0.8mm pins. Oh well. Better get started.

Is it weird that Butcher4's shirtlessness makes me want to paint him like he has tank top tan lines? SO HEY TESOE DID YOU EVER DO THAT?

Holy crap here's a thing! home.privateerpress.com/2023/04/12/introducing-the-privateer-press-community-hub/ Hmm, tells me my browser is unsupported. I wonder, at this point, with people spread out across multiple discords (I'm personally on 5 PP-centric discords), facebook, and whatever else (also the five? of us left on this forum), would a new official PP "community hub" unite people, or just further fragment the userbase? Also someone posted that this was one of the "terms and conditions": Which is not inspiring of confidence. If you're going to insta-ban someone the least you can do is explain why.

Eh, the people who engage in toxic behavior almost certainly are aware of what they’re doing. It’s that whole “Hey man, don’t get mad at me, I’m just asking questions” way of making wild and controversial nonsense claims under the guise of having a rational conversation. For me: I barely engage in the Warmachine General Facebook group anymore because I got tired of the “lol PP rules for X (where X is the newest release, such as Guard Towers, or clarified movement rules, or whatever) sucks, look at all these errors” “just asking questions” nonsense. You can definitively and unambiguously answer their questions with rules quotes, and they ignore it and come back again the next day with more of the same thing. I am/have been in exactly two PP-centric Discords: the MonPoc and Warcaster ones, and the elitist “meta” power posters in them soured me and ran me off. “Model X sucks and is utter trash, why did PP waste their effort on this garbage”, until the next TTS tournament comes along and somebody uses the model well and that model is now the Second Coming all of the sudden. “Oh wow that list is amazing and revolutionary!” and all they changed from the last netdeck list was one unit and building… like, c’mon. But maybe I am being overly critical. Anyway, I felt the same “ugh, yet another place” feelings, but a return to proper forums, where information can actually persist beyond the eighteen-second lifespan of Facebook’s algorithm or the last page of Discord chat, is growing in me. I signed up yesterday (I was like the third non-staff non-beta-tester in the door) but I haven’t posted yet.

Eh, the people who engage in toxic behavior almost certainly are aware of what they’re doing. It’s that whole “Hey man, don’t get mad at me, I’m just asking questions” way of making wild and controversial nonsense claims under the guise of having a rational conversation. Sure, sometimes that's true, but misunderstandings are common on the internet, a moderator banning someone because he was cranky/hangry and the poster wasn't clear or just happened to be in a bad mood themselves is a thing that can happen. No opportunity for discussion or explanation, no opportunity to clear things up, means such mistakes cannot be rectified. You have to give people the benefit of a doubt, then you'll find sometimes that actually they didn't mean any harm. If you just assume the worst and never give people a chance to explain themselves, then you'll walk around convinced that you were right the whole time because you keep reinforcing your own belief without actually seeing what's really there. If that makes sense. But also I just find it kinda insulting. "Here is our friendly welcoming forum, if you don't follow our rules we will kick you out instantly. We don't owe you anything, we won't owe you an explanation if we don't like something you said." It feels very one-sided; like they think they're doing me a favour or something. I've talked about my issues with the Monpoc discord, but at the end of the day it is an active place of discussion filled with people who love the game. There is very little toxicity. The (new) Warcaster discord has been quiet as there hasn't been much happening with the game, but still: it's a positive place with very little toxicity, and I find it easy to follow the conversation than in the Monpoc one. Sure, people talk about whether models are powerful or not, so what? You've certainly expressed your own opinions on some models. Repeatedly. The Warmachine forum is fine, at least the Khador and hobby threads. The LOS warmachine forum has been very quiet ever since they announced they were closing the faction forums. I dunno how much activity there is in the threads I don't frequent. Even the hobby forums have rather little PP stuff being shown; a lot of 40K and statues and stuff these days. Occasionally some MCP. Yeah, forums would be nice. I might join, but... I dunno, I kinda feel burned on PP's forums. I don't want to join just to be insta-banned because I said something that they didn't like, or have them nuke their forums again. Perhaps an acknowledgement that they realise what happened last time was a mistake might help, but... I dunno, I guess I'd rather engage with them on "our" terms than theirs, if that makes sense.

I don’t think you should be overly worried about insta-bans. I’ve had many private discussions with the Facebook mods, and I feel confident saying that the ban language is there for those same toxic people I mentioned. Misunderstandings are one thing, but constant, predictable behavior is another. Some of these folks have a reputation. You could tell me “Somebody just started a thread complaining about the newest model rules/terrain rules/similar" and I will lay 95% confidence I can name them, because it’s one of the same dozen or so rabble rousers almost every time. Constructive criticism is one thing; “lol look how bad this rule is (based on this corner-case interaction and my ambiguous, uncharitable interpretation of intent), PP sux!” is another, and I see the latter a lot. I’ll expand my thoughts later when I am at a keyboard.
