From CID forums: "Defenders of Ios Theme Force – This change adds clarity and should contribute to greater list diversity.
Replace the first special rule with the following:
For every 20 points of units and battle engines in this army, you can add one weapon crew unit, command attachment, or solo to the army free of cost. Free units and command attachments do not count toward the total point value of units in the army when calculating this bonus."
This is super sweet because now I can build a Ellowuyr Swordsman spam list fo Thyron and still get free points. Not sure If it's actually good but I'm glad to have the option.
Discuss!!

I mean, it's pretty much a straight buff to the theme, honestly. It was necessary if they wanted anyone taking Ellowuyrs in theme, and it incentivizes people to buy the battle engine, too. I guess Defenders is meant to be our 'default' theme list now? I'm having a hard time thinking of a caster that wouldn't at least consider it (Rahn, I guess.)
That's one way to get Sentinels from being played across the board. It's an interesting move, but I'm not certain I like the blatant monetization of the theme force/new releases.

I'm pleased to see that it opens up a bit more and became a more versatile theme force. Not sure when I will play it, but I do intend to try it.

Its a very interesting change to the theme. Notice though that it now says units and as such Houseguard Thanes no longer count but I guess that is negligible. As far as this being our default theme I would have to say yes and no. It is by far the most basic theme but there are still too many things that I would not want to have to give up, namely our character jacks and sentinels.

Thought I would throw this up here now that the final week of Battle Engine CID is up. Here are the total changes. - Lost Dual Shot + Gained ROF 2 + Aiming now give +2Pow + Destruction Shot Type (Old +2POW) is now boosted damage rolls. - Lost 1 ARM + Gained Carapace (A model with Carapace has +4 ARM from shooting and free strikes) - Cost now 17 was 16
Thoughts? As a whole I am super excited for it and will most likely be getting one.

Youre gonna hit what you wamt to hit most of the time. Id say that most of the time you do want to use the other shot types but the ROF change is awesome.

Personally I am really excited for it with Kaelyssa. I have a ranged assassination list that I really like and I feel like it could slot in quite nicely and of course it interacts really well with Refuge. .

The sheer amount of theorymachine QQing over this change on the CID forums is astonishing. Seems like a lot of people are sad that the AFG is an impactful piece that can't be trivially shut down by a half-dozen things.

How was it trivially shut down? Is it alone on the table? Most stuff doesn't run as far as he can aim&Shoot...

Some very angry people on the CID forum it appears. The theory machine is strong in them. A friend of mine has played like 20+ games in the CID with it and even with its current rules he typically gets 1 turn of aim and shoot before his opponent has dealt with it.

To me after all these years, (aka since 2011) it has finally become worth putting on the table.

Agreed I have always loved the model but it has never been quite worth it to pick one up.
