Sturgis, pWho, Stryker-1, he goes by many names. But to me he only goes by one, The Most Fun Warcaster in the game.
My current list is this:
Sturgis Storm Division
Squire
Centurion x2
Jakes
Hunter x2
Jr
Firefly
Stormlance max
Laddermore
Stormblade Captain
This list really has some fun play. I use snipe in the first turn always on a hunter when I go first. This allows me to put 1 double boosted AP 6 shot into their deployment zone, and 1 into their AD zone. So far I haven't had to worry about Sentry Stones or Shifting Stones in any game so far playing this list. The skirmishing ability of the list using the Stormlance boat and the hunters with Jakes really puts a mobile and long range threat onto the table. Combine this with a monstrous backbone of ARM 24 unchargable Heavies and we have ourselves a ball game.
That's just the list, let's get into the caster himself.
Isn't he just a worse version of Stryker1? No. No he's not. Stop it. This man is nothing even close. Yes he has a similar tool box, but I feel they drastically use their boxes differently.
Let's start with his second most unique attribute: His Feat
His feat clumps things up. You know what likes clumps? Stormlances and Armour a billion heavies with reach. A common occurrence in my games is activating first with Sturgis, charging into a jamming model, feat before the attack, clumping everything up and doing the damage with the feat, then make your attacks where you need, and TP away. Now with your newly fully loaded Centurions, ram them down your opponents throats and engage as much as possible. Also make sure you take those impact attacks with the lances. Lots' of things will be side by side now to amplify their damage (cause they totally needed that). The feat really can mess with peoples spacing (people putting things 4.1" apart for instance). Lastly, people like to screen their casters. It's smart play. You know who can pull things away from screening a caster or out of control range to transfer to? Sturgis can.
Exhibit A. Played vs a Morg2 players in a recent tournament. He screened his caster with 2 titans and a sentinel. I feated "pulled" the titans first so they bumped and didnt move, then pulled that sentinel 3" forward. Commence the new LOS for attacks to Morg for my entire army now.
Does your opponent have a model 4.1" away to protect their armour 13/14 caster from electroleaps? Nip that in the but with this wonderful feat.
Now for his most unique kit: Dual attack combined with his chain attack.
NOTE HIS CHAIN ATTACK IS ANY MODEL. hit that centurion in the back to jump over your front lines to clear the jam!!!!!!!!
This is where he really shines. He can stay 10 inches back of the front line after contributing 6 to 8 damage rolls with only 1 focus spent! That's huge. Especially with a relatively focus efficient army. Also, if you can engineer a slam onto your opponent's caster, even terminus might eventually feel focus strapped when you're taking 16 attacks on him from 11" away, or 14 from 14" away (even more with lanyssa). Can't get the caster knocked down? Well boost both initials and jump into his back arc for 10 mat 9 pow 13 attacks. Can we say that again? 10 mat 9 pow 13 attacks!!!!!! Who cares the focus count or transfer stack when you're plinking for 4 or 5 continuously. He is a complete blender of men.
Try being aggressive with him, he really is a risk reward sort of caster.
