Erg. Wrote a huge long post in here and had it eaten by a browser. *sigh*. Short version; what caster would you play, if the Rock came to your house and twisted your actual physical arm until you agreed to play a list with 4+ Impalers in it? I had a list that I wanted to try in week 1 CID, but it was using Gunnbjorn1 for the spell that gives boosted attacks, which is almost entirely negated by Powerful attack being added in week 3.
I'm not trying to make a good list. I'm trying to make the best list I can, given that I want 4+ Impalers in it. Which I absolutely agree is probably dumb. I don't care.
I'm vaguely attracted by the spell list of Skuld, but I've never seen him on a table so I have no idea how good/bad he might be.
I swear I was much more eloquent about why I was bothering last time I wrote this up. Trust me.

Main question: PoD or KC? KC gives mark target, PoD gives free snipe animus!!!
In KC probably I would not take 4, so let's go for PoD.
First non Caster support: Knot, easy 3 or 6 puppet master, nice. Archon removes the single Fury on each beast, nice. Axer should be around, stone for strength and stealth removal. Mauler gives really cheap rage for 1!
Finally 4 impaler would be very cheap. They all eat into wp points so I would probably go for axer +3, but you could run 4 tbh.
Casters: Calandra, polishes everything, including you many dice you roll! Turns around keay targets.
Ragnor, cheap pulverizer, feat helps them survive, loves mulg who is also in the theme.
Gunn Björn. Nice. Assault, then attack, then kill shot! Snipe + Rage is an option!
Grim 1+2 both reduce def and or arm. They love it! And love snipe.
Any madrak would like 1 or 2, but not 4.
I am scared how I suddenly find 4impalers kind of legit...

Rok to give Primal is also an option - Now with assault, Impalers can assault a target, get a fully boosted RAT 5 ranged attack, then get two mat 7 melee attacks one of which is boosted, all at Pow 15.
Lanyssa Ryssel for Hunters Mark as well, help that threat range - especially in combination with some of the buffs above.
Was trying to envision a way in which the Grissel's could work - Guardian Protector can do some interesting things to threat ranges, Hoof It and repo can put them into better defensive positions, wailing and eGrissels Feat can help them survive the turn they assault in. I think ultimately there are better options, but food for thought.

I'm just mad I didn't paint my second one a few weeks ago when I did my run of lights. Hindsight.

If the goal is using some Impalers, then so be it.
Calandra1 - Soothing Song is always nice for such fury hog beasts. Feat is good too. Grim1 - The feat cause -3 SPD to the enemy, means he gives one more turn to shoot. Grim2 - The feat means they don't need to cast animus to themselves, saves up to 4 fury points to leech. Gunnbjorn1 - Guided Fire lets them to NOT forced to boost the attack roll, so you may try slam gambit with few fury to leech.

I was trying to avoid Calandra, just because I always seem to end up falling back on her and it feels lazy. But she really is very good for the list; not only Soothing Song for fury control, but one of our few casters with the control range to cope, now that the Impalers are doing Assault charges for bonus range. And she has rerolls. And Befuddle. And her feat is good for everything. I may actually go with her (again.)
I think the Grim2 benefit goes away just because I don't see how to run this outside of PoD. I need the free animi every turn.
That was exactly my thoughts on Gunnbjorn1... in week 1. But now that they have Powerful Attack, and can boost hit and damage for 1 fury, saving me from boosting to hit doesn't really accomplish much. I think he's still not a terrible choice - Kill Shot could be cool, though I don't really ever like the odds of getting the charge with trolls.

It's not a"bad" thing to have a crutch Warlock. Every faction and player has their go to's and dark horses. I still find myself leaning into Jarl despite the general lack of discussion around him. Ret has Issy and Garryth2, but that doesn't mean you won't see someone come at you with Vyros2 or Thyron some day because they just know them inside and out, or Rayvn (if I'm on a Ret kick at the time). Calandra is good, and if you find her interesting and she's doing the things you want done, then she's what you take. This idea that X-caster isn't what I want because she does it too well too often is absurd. Give me Calandra, I'll lose every game, I'm just not good with her. But I'll toe to toe with most anybody with Jarl.

I can always come back.
I'm actually keen to try my silly list with Jarl, so I'm glad to hear someone say they like him. I _really_ like Magic Bullet.
Still haven't had a chance to actually try this out, and the CID is done. Ah well; life.

Tangent: I think Jarl is great, and he just fits me well. Magic bullet is a brilliant scalpel. He has a speed buff. He protects his army on the way in. And Tac Supremacy and Weald Secrets are not terrible tools either.. "That's a nice caster you got there behind that wall, be a pity if this (Rat 6 powerful shot) Impaler didn't care about your cover bonus and then slammed them out in the open". He's not a windmill slam, but he he's a nice fluffy winter coat, for me anyways.
