How do _you_ take points off your Champions? (By which I mean that I get how it works, but want to know your strategy for ticking boxes...)
My usual rule of thumb is to tick 4 boxes off a single model at a time, preferring to damage models that still have attacks incoming. That way if it later gets hit by a big swing shot I can take the 1 box and a Tough roll and ignore the rest. But I've seen others spread the damage equally; just wondered if there was a reason I'd missed..

Hi there! Seems this forum is sadly forgotten a bit, most of us troll players moved to FB group or Discord chats...
I think you're rite, it's best to transfer as much as possible to those champs who are probably receiving further punches so that they might or might not wave them off with a tough check.
One exception for me is when they are about to receive cont fire/corrosion effect as these are non-transferable so you always want to leave some buffer (fire is much more devastating here though).
Spreading damage equally might work for Exemplas Bastions since the Seneschal heals them by 1p each, but I see no particular reason we would do that with trolls

Agree with spreading it around isn't the way to go. But again the contEffects or a single plink is annoying so I normally take 3 off people that will get hit later in the turn and hope for Toughs/Retaliatory. Problem can be what if target is hit for 6+. Do you spread that around or just let him tough->die thereby only taking 5 damage?

You should only spread damage in these circumstances:
1) The physical position of the model is crucial, such as a guy contesting a zone, and the opponent does not have sufficient attacks remaining to power through the transfers and wipe the unit.
2) The opponent does not have sufficient attacks remaining to kill the unit if you transfer, and having more bodies on the table (to attack with next turn) is more important than having damage on multiple models.
3) You’re intentionally trying to kill a particular model, i.e. the leader is KD/stationary/whatever, because that model’s status will cripple the unit’s ability to activate/function the next turn.
