I want to test something like this in the next days, simple but effective(I think). Warders shield other units until it’s time to get in melee. Boomhowler, for 8pts speed up a unit/fellcaller wannabe/axer wannabe, simply a staple. Archon heal/manage fury, madrak buff Champions, Champions hit like a hammer.
battlegroup see the mauler in the buff/melee role but with the new animi with more freedom to choose.
Other options could be: drop slag for basher, take stone attachment. drop pyre for basher take min.stone + attachment I like the slag(the concept but not so much the realization)but like the warders could be cheaper.
Theme: Band of Heroes 75/ 75 Army 0 / 20 Specialist
Madrak, Great Chieftain - WB: +29 - Trollkin Runebearer - PC: 0 - Dire Troll Mauler - PC: 15 (Battlegroup Points Used: 15) - Pyre Troll - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8) - Slag Troll - PC: 10 (Battlegroup Points Used: 6)
Boomhowler3 - PC: 8 Dhunian Archon - PC: 0

If you drop one of those warders for Valks it should give you the points to turn that Mauler into a Brawler and keep your basic concept. And I would drop the slag for...lots of other things, to get the stone attachment, but only min Stone. actually. Slag out, min stone might give the points to keep Warders, if you are set on that, but I don't see the benefit of more than three. Keeping in mind that your battlgroup is now a shield guard too.

I don’t like the brawler so much, plus the mauler can buff the caster and other beasts. I’m going to try that list with +1pyre +max Stone + attachment +Sons of Bragg -1unit of warders -1slag

I'm inclined to agree, feels like there's too much delivery and not quite enough to be delivered. Even with Battle Lust the Warders barely hit harder than Valkyries, and you want that spell on the Champions (or Boomie in a pinch) anyway. Three shield guards with guardblock plus potentially three shield guards on the beasts sounds enough to me. I'd be tempted to put in a Champion Hero for ret strike on the Champions and Boomie. A swamp troll could also be an interesting pick, together with Defender's Ward you can put your Champions up to 18/16, or 20/16 while they're hiding behind the Warders.

I'm trying something similar tonight. I feel like shmeep is probably right, and there's too much support in it, but I wanted to get a lot of CID models in there. I went with:
Ditched the Mauler for a Swamp Troll and a Night Troll. It's an extra Shield Guard, but mostly I just wanted to get more different CID models in there, and didn't feel like the Mauler would get much chance to do anything.
Ditched BH3 for a Champion Hero and a Stone Scribe Elder. So I've gone even further overboard on support for the Champions than you did.
Ditched one unit of Warders for 3 Sorcerers on the Champions. Because WTH: might as well go all-in. But I feel like 15 extra boxes and Disbinding on tap is more protection for the Champions than Warders are.
Basically the idea is that Madrak3 has great unit buff spells, so create 2 huge units to get lots of benefit out of them. It's probably not great, but I'll let you know how it goes...

We were unable to finish the game - facing Ragnar and All the Runeshapers - but it was interesting and a lot of fun.
The bevy of light warbeasts did almost exactly nothing. But then, my opponent had no shooting, only magic, so Shield Guard wasn't much use, and there was so much infantry in the way they never really got to grips with anything. I would probably replace the Night Troll and Swamp Troll with a Brawler next time.
The Champion Hero should definitely have been a Fell Caller Hero instead, but I was trying to see what Champions with All the Bells and Whistles would look like. They took an amazing amount of punishment and kept going. Even wounded they easily removed a heavy without getting the charge under Battle Lust. Should have put Defenders Ward on them (I'd put it on the Fennblades instead, and it turned out to be wasted vs the accuracy of his Runeshapers.)
Next time I would definitely ditch one of the Sorcerers and my one whelp for a Chronicler to help the Fennblades out.
Runebearer wins MVP for being able to put out a second Battle Lust. I'd be willing to bet that doesn't work anymore by the end of CID.
