What is the W-L ratio of best Warmachine players ?
I am taking part in a discussion about randomness in games. I checked the Win - Lose ratio of top MTG players and learned that it is ~65%. I am not surprised as MTG has a pretty significant random element to it. I was wondering how it compares with the Warmachine scene. I consider WM&H much more skill based than MTG, with a lot of tools that allow to mitigate randomness. Also simplistic tactics relying on quick aggression that pay little attention to what the opponent is doing have no place in Warmachine.
I would like to think that statistics support that. But maybe I am in the wrong ?

I agree with your statement on both accounts. I would say it's less the player who can win fastest, but the player that makes the first mistake... So the win % would be vastly different if they're only playing other high level players than if they were say, going to locals and stomping everyone. So to me the % is not really relevant. You can't physically lose a lot of the time if you've not made any mistakes.

One of the best players in the World, Pat Dunford, stated some while ago that he registred his game for a year; 400 games and 90 % wins.
There is an old thread about it in facebook warmachine general.

It's a shame it's limited then as it would be exactly what I was interested in. Oh, well, thanks anyway!

Its a privat group, so you can only see post if you get into the group, and you need Facebook account. www.facebook.com/groups/warmachineandhordesgeneralLots of warmahordes WTC players posted in the thread about win rates. It's here www.facebook.com/groups/warmachineandhordesgeneral/permalink/1489056651259490/The percentages are everything from 50% to 90%, which makes sense. If top players always face top players, one wins and one loses. I think a big factor in what makes top tier players the best is their ability to mitigate bad luck while pressing good luck. If a tactic didn't work, they don't go all in and waste 75 points of army to do what 30 points should have done. They allocate different resources to a different problem. So 30 points of the army failing to do X, still did Y, but the rest of the army can focus on other options. Let's look at clearing a zone. Say an opponent was very lucky on Tough rolls so they have 4 of their 10 models still in the zone. I could pivot new resources to deal with that or I can realize that those 4 models will not have a huge effect on my army because it's just 4 models and I have 14 models in the area that were supposed to take the zone. His 4 models might kill 4 of mine, but I have 10 models left to deal with that and then I claim the zone. It might put me back a turn or two on scenario, but it's definitely better than going full tilt and losing because I gave up ground that I shouldn't have to take ground that I didn't immediately need. Now, if I was lucky with AoE scatters and killed 9 of those models with a Redeemer, that means that the rest of the models that I had for that task can do other tasks. I can have 1 or 2 other models go into the zone to clear the last enemy model.
