Game 1 VS Steve of team Combo Smite
Vlad2 vs Karchev on scenario bunker
That game was pretty quick, my opponent went first so it means I could score first and I managed to win on scenario by bottom of turn 3, he killed a bunch of doom reavers with widowmakers to get a couple of road to war move, then I feated and had a bunch of doom reaver charing killing the jacks contesting the flags to score on two of the flags. On his turn he got a couple of jacks forward but was only contesting the other flags with eliminators, I killed the eliminators and contested his zone with my archon for the quick scenario win.
Game 2 VS Brad Park of team Mid-Atlantic Mollywhoppers: Team Bear Dogs
Vlad2 vs Helga1 on scenario Recon 2
This is the game I stole of the weekend thanks to my opponent dice failing him at a key momment, his list is an unusual one with 2 primal archon, 2 void archon, two road hogs, and a BUNCH of solos, including 6 river raiders, I know it's big on casterkill so I kept Vlad2 at the edge of the killbox the entire game and in the end he still manage to get an archon to vlad's face but I was camping enough to survive that. I feated on turn one to get a primal archon and a couple of river raiders and valkyries, lost a bunch of reavers after that, then I went in with my outriders and void archon to get rid of most of the support (like all the non void archon solos except the hermit).
Not sure how the game would have went but at one point a road hog with gang fighter managed to not kill my void archon leaving his own void archon tied to have to kill my archon instead of going to town on outriders. Helga had to get super agressive forward and had to use way too many fury to barely kill 3 doom reavers.
At that point I should have just gone for the attrition play since well, a lot of my stuff was still alive, but I decided to go for a casterkill which failed thanks to a combination of bad dice and my opponent getting a crit knockdown on the free strike on my juggernaut that I was going to get into helga's face. Vlad was still not too exposed there so my opponent went all in to try to kill him and left him with a couple of boxes but helga empty of focus in the middle of my army, I just managed to kill Helga then.
Got lucky with that win, I think my opponent played it better than I did, glad I lucked out because we won that round 3/2.
Round 3 VS Jacob Green of team Better Sworn
Vlad3 vs Baldur1 on King of the Hill
This one didn't last long either, I went first got everything forward, on his turn he also did pretty much the same with baldur feating on turn one with an agressive charge forward and his army in his control area. On my turn I had the judicator spraying ravagers but only killing one (bad dice on my part and my opponent rolling some tough roll) and kill the cookpot with his rockets, shuffled the rest of my army forward while staying out of threat of most of the rest of the dangerous stuff. On his turn my opponent went for one of my archon with his bird charging and failing to kill it because he missed his charge attack, the archon also survived a charge from the lord of the feast thanks to the hermit, his lord of the feast then used his bird on a flame brigner but only killed one, leaving him engaged with an other, but totally out of corpses.
Then the ravagers charged the juddicator and rolled a bit under average and left me with an alive judicator (I think average rolls should be 58 damage out of the judicator's 60 boxes) and this is when he totally tunnelled vision on needing to kill the judicator... So he went in with Baldur and finally killed him but this meant baldur was just behind a big bunch of tharn in a beautiful arc, he also killed a venger giving me swift vengeance on the archon on the left side of the table. On my turn, I noticed Gethorix was his only transfer target since the bird was full, my archon vengeanced and went all in on Gethorix, doing a bunch of damage to his only transfer target. Then vlad pulled a focus off the wrack, put hand of fate on himself, feated and charged Baldur and the beautiful arc of tharn, a couple of flashing blade later vlad was on 5 blood quench token and a lot of dead tharn, a couple of flashing blade and initial attacks later, Vlad killed Baldur1. If my opponent had not tunnel visioned or just strait up killed the judicator with his tharn I was totally ok with my position, would have still been a game, I was ok with risking the judicator since it put me in a good position for the next turn, the Vlad killing the tharn part was goind to happen either way, and thanks to the Bird taking 13 points of damage from a transfer from baldur from the judicator's spray I was fairly confident I could have killed it on that turn, it was in range of the hermit too, an arm 16 bird dies pretty quickly to anything. Didn't come to that, I got an easy win because of tunnel vision, was ok playing the game if it was going to go into a long game.
Game 4 VS Brant Cullen of BC Boys
Vlad2 vs Makeda3 on Invasion
My opponent went first while staying outside of my threat ranges, his list has 6 archidons and is pretty much based around leveraging Bulwark on Makeda. On my turn I also go forward and pretty wide while mostly staying outside of his threat range except for one doom reaver set up as bait. On his turn he doesn't take the bait, gets into the zones to contest but not much else, he also shuffles forward. I notice he makes a classic mistake with Zadesh (who has a gladiator and a krea on him), he puts him in range of my outriders (behind a bunch of stuff but sprays don't care about that) thinking he is safe because of sac pawn, he also puts up the krea's aura even though I only have an archon and a destroyer to shoot, with upkeeping tag team it means Zadesh is only camping one. On my turn, I have the unit in front of the outriders apparate to make way for the outriders, the koldun lord gives them puppet master, the outriders go, they then manage to kill Zadesh (leaving the gladiator and krea wild) the aggonizer, a full unit of paingivers and put some damage on the archidons in the pod of 3 in frond of me and toeing the zone. They repo out of the way, I feat on doom reavers, get 6 feat target, the feated doom reavers go in, I can only get 5 into the pod of archidons, the 6th feated target just runs, a couple of boost from arcane might and berzer attack later, that pod of 3 archidons is dead and I even get an attack on maked that she transfers to her Battle boar.
At this point, I haven't lost a model, my opponent lost half the beasts in Makeda's control area, lost a big part of his support, he's got a couple of wild beast on the table and has to deal with feated reavers and the way I placed my army he can't pacman through more than the feated unit of reavers and maybe a couple of outriders (who have done their job by now and can die for all I care) My opponent goes into the tank, clears a way to get Makeda as far forward as she can, his out is trying to kill Vlad(camping 2) with Bladed Gale after barely getting him in range after taking a free strike from a feated doom reaver and killing an outrider, Vlad survives the assassination attempt like a champ, my opponent then shakes my hand, he's got Makeda camping zero with 4 boxes left in range of pretty much the rest of my army.
I had been told makeda3 was good into doom reavers because of her pacman turn, never really believed it and this games pretty much confirms it to me, I outthreat his army and can kill what I want, I can also feed it what can be pacmaned through in order to not lose my entire army, the outriders are also monsters in that match up, with no shooting and no great model to chase them they can just wreak havok in his support that is pretty much necessary for the list to function.
Game 5 VS Cody Demunn of Billy's Basement
Vlad2 Vs Vlad3 on Anarchy
His list is very different from mine, he's got no cavalry unit, a fun carriage, a couple of the cavalry solo and one more unit of initates.
He goes first, stays out of my reaver's threat range, has the judicator, fun carriage and initates on one flank, the archons and fenris in the middle, a champion of the wall and the other unit of initates on the other flank.
On my turn I go forward the outriders who have a limited use in that match up go between the judicator and fun carriage and the reavers I have on this side of the table, the middle doom reavers advance positionned so that even with Vlad3's feat fenris has only limited potential and they stay out of range of the archons, on the Champion side I have a unit of reavers, the ternions, the archon.
On his turn he charges and kills two outriders and two doom reavers with his fun carriage, the judicator kills an other outrider and a couple of reavers, the justs fumble forward in the middle, gets an archon on his flag and keeps fenris back, the champion charges kills a reaver and knocks one down with and impact hit, the initates get into that zone.
On my turn I get a koldun lord on my flag and brittle frost the battle engine in the middle of the zone, the biggest reaver unit on this side gets relentless charge and go kill the brittle frosted fun carriage, I get a berzerk attack into an initiate but don't do any damage, on the other side of the table the ternion ice cage the champion of the wall, the doom reavers charge and dismount him (these things are tough...) then the archon goes and kill it, also sprays the initiates for a couple of damage but no kill. The destroyer gets eyeless sight and shots and damage an archon and does 1 to the hermit in front of him. Vlad goes and feat on the middle reavers, the feated reavers go, kill the archon thar got shot by the destroyer, kill the objective and do one more to the hermit with the last berzerk attack, 3 feated reavers get into the other archon and leave him on one box and the hermit vision used, the juggernaut just keeps going forward lagging behind. The outriders go and go on each side of the judicator, one does two damage to vilmon and kills a vassal, the other one kills the other vassal and two choir dude, the last unit of reaver charges the judicator (it has one reaver that could charge, the other was knocked down and the escort left) it does some damage to the judicator. I score two, one from my flag, one from the destroyed objective. Score 2-0 for me
On his turn only vilmon could vengeace but he misses a feated reaver. His initate on the dead champion side charge and kill two reavers and keep contesting, fenris goes into the feated reavers and kill two of them, the archon threshers and kills two more, vilmon goes and kill one more (I have only one left of that unit at this point). Vlad feats and kills some reavers from the unit in his zone on the judi's side, his initates charge and kill one reaver in that zone and an outrider, the hermit runs to contest my flag, his judicator kills the rest of my model in that zone. Score 2-1 for me.
On my turn, the greylord in the champion's zone ice cage the initates for less set defense bonus, the reavers go, kill one and do some damage, the void archon goes, kill the last two (I can now score the zone) and then teleports and spray his remaining archon to death. My last middle reaver apparated out of the way of my juggernaut and fenris, Juggernaut goes and kill fenris (too bad my solos are all too far to get to that flag), Vlad goes, gives assails the destoyer who got pathfinder from the objective, my last middle reaver goest for Vilmon, kills him and berzerks into the judicator for a couple more damage, destoyer goes into the judicator, killing one side and the superstructure, the last remaining escort on the judicator side goes in the zone to contest and sprays the hermit, the adjunct and koldun lord kill off the hermit. Score 4-1 for me.
On his turn, the initates kill the escort contesting the zone but can't get into contesting range of the flag, the judicator tries to kill the objective but fail (tough order when one side is broken and no superstructure HOF) and kill the koldun lord camping my flag, Vlad3 goes and razor wind the adjunct but can't get to my flag. He can't get anything into the champion zone. Score 5-2 for me.
On my turn I just have to run Vlad2 on my flag, the Void archon to his flag and I win, I don't take the time to finish the judicator with my jacks or contest his zone since I already have enough for the scenario win. Score 8-3 for me.
This one was a grind but I felt mostly in control of the game the entire time, I was losing on one flank and winning in the middle and on ther other flank and I was up on the attrition at that point he was running out of models to contest and I wasn't his judicator was next to dead and I still had way more than enough models to finish it. Not an easy game, but it was a good one and I could see it going differently with a couple of different play from my opponent, I still think Vlad2 is advantaged in this match up.
So that's that my team went 3/2 for that round too winning us the tournament. Was a fun tournament and all my opponents were fun to play and played a clean game, will be returning next year to defend the title.
