Found out the hard way today that US postal services don't have PO boxes by default. Had a bunch of stuff sent to a relative and it all got stolen, so I'm left with my finger up my ass and 200$ short. Lesson learned, I guess. I'll bite the bullet on international shipping from now on.

It's a really serious crime if mail is stolen. Report it and the Postal Police will literally spare no expense to find the package. It's a very bored, very powerful force of law.

I'd do that, but these are packages from well over 6 months ago, and my relative might be the only person in the entire US who doesn't have security cameras installed in their home.
That's what makes it doubly annoying, I didn't even know this can happen, so I assumed if it says it's delivered, then it's at home, not lying on the ground outside. Over here you either get it from the PO box or they hand it to you personally, none of this "lol guess I'll just leave it on the floor" BS.
No use crying over spilled milk, but dogganm is this shit infuriating.

Perhaps don’t blame the country and blame your relative for not bringing in his package?

Perhaps don’t blame the country and blame your relative for not bringing in his package? Perhaps the relative wasn't home at the time of delivery? Which is why the delivery person felt the need to leave it on the lawn ... creating the perfect condition for anyone of ill will to come in and scoop it before said relative even returned home? Just saying.

There’s a reason why so many people in the US have doorbell cameras and why you hear a lot of stories about stolen packages from the US but not from other countries.

Have to say, being smug because your country's post services suck and blow is a new low.

Not all package delivery is performed by government drones. Even then, there is only so much a delivery agent can do to properly secure delivery, especially if extra security measures are not requested by the recipient. Not to mention, even a doorbell cam will prevent a porch thief. All it can do is provide law enforcement with a lead to follow up on the theft. Of course, some people have taken steps to fight porch thieves.

Of course, some people have taken steps to fight porch thieves. You know it! I have placed a fully functional combatsentry who reprimands you in a most obnoxious manner whenever you look funny at packages left unattended on my porch by the mailman.
