Wolf with No Name was spoiled today. He wields a “pig iron rifle” with 2” extra range which makes me hopeful for future farrow shooting solos.
In the meantime, he’s at least theoretically the hardest hitting gun in the faction for only 4 pts.
Three relevant mechanics: Prey (up to rat8 pow14) Wanted: hitting your prey target grants loot tokens that can be used to boost. Doesn’t start with any tokens but always has the options to boost damage on his prey target. Finisher: on both his ranged and melee, nuff said.
When stacked up that’s a rat 8 pow14 shot with 4 dice.
On top of all that he’s d13/a15, 8 boxes, hyper regen, AD, and pathfinder.

He's very polarised. He'll ruin his prey but will be awful against anything else for his cost. There is a distinct lack of reposition too...
The pig iron rifle is a bit interesting? Probably wouldn't read into it much, though.

Yeah, he does a solid amount of damage. Makes me think of a more accurate, more powerful Razorback Crew for one point less, albeit with some limitations in other departments. If I had any Razorback Crews in my lists I'd be considering replacing them.

I'm a bit underwhelmed personally.
It's a decent gun for 4pts, but most of it's power comes from attacking the prey target, which kinda puts the Wolf's worth in your opponent's hands. Pow 12 with finisher is alright, but is it worth 4 pts? If only he had a Loot token to start with, he could reliably get at least a good shot off per game. As it is I think I'll always pick Boomy2, Alten or even Longchops before the Wolf unless I really only have 4pts left in a list and no better option.

I think my biggest thoughts on its are that he’s a good model but it’s still average. There are some cute things of no name can somewhat dictate the position of an enemy heavy with prey but even there it’s limited and and many of its abilities get shut down quite easily. Dedicated gun lines might get something out of him but I’m still stumped to fit it anywhere in a list and be happy about wolfs output

I feel like he wants to tag along with all these other options that he theoretically competes with (longchops, boomy2, razorbacks). Area denial like traps/covering fire is helpful to have around to keep him a bit safer after ending a turn 12" from his prey, and I like the idea of using AD to counterdeploy him along with a razorback pair and chewing up a heavy before it can hit the lines. I do feel like I'd be more likely to be run in thornfall than foodwork; I could see him being decent in a midas+gunboars+infantry list or helping seal the deal on Helga's knockdown assassination runs.
One as yet unknown part of the equation is that Scythe will also be in Thornfall, who is very likely to have multiple sniper shots like the other deathstalkers. Even if she has snap fire and only wants to use her second attack to do so, reliably triggering finisher for the slaughterhousers+NoName sounds like something thornfall might really appreciate (also likely to have AD and join that little NoName/Razorback Group).
