Hi guys!
Ive been building a LOT of lists in war room (basically every caster in every theme just to see if anything jumps out). One of the big changes is that we can now include lesser warlocks as our minions slot without losing out on free stuff. After building a lot of lists i find myself not using this ability very often. I think that the real power here though is when you are building a pair, and you know that of of your lists will have to play only against living factions you might reach for Dhalia more often and things like that. You dont find those details when you build lists in a vacuum i guess.
Still if i go through all warlocks and ask "can this guy use the ability to bring a lesser (or several in SM)?" I think that there are a few cases that look interesting. Here are a few examples.
Baldur 1 or Wurmwood with Mire
Placing a 4" forest is fun. Adding two 3" clouds on the sides of that can be bananas! For 11 points you can have Mirea and a Bone Swarm, who is annoying to kill, gives Mire stealth, can eat corpses from the pot/well and do a little bit of work. There is a lot to like here. If you arent bringing the well/pot you might consider another beast. Swamp troll still gives you stealth, and in a medium based meta he can do some pulling. A Spitter to have an independent gun is probably OK too. A Wrastler if you play SM and have more lessers could also be good. There is probably something here to be discovered!
Baldur 2 (and others) and Wrongeye (or Dhalia)
As you probably know by now, i really like Baldur with DH as he presents a combined DEF and ARM skew with Ghetorix and Loki behind a wall. Adding Star crossed to that is bonkers of course BUT i think that there might be a better use for WE&SJ in the list. I think it is probably better to send the Ravagers with a shaman and WE&SJ on one of the flanks, making for a more durable caster independent package. The beasts and caster can hold the other flank allowing Baldur to play more to the side and in less danger. Sure, the Ravagers wont get the feat as easily, but they rarely do that anyway in my experience.
I think the same could work for Kromac 2 in DH where he does very little for the Ravagers, and they can WE&SJ could form a self sufficient flank while the caster stays with the beasts, or in Kromacs case, he stays wherever there is a heavy to kill!
Dhalia can probably serve a similar purpose in these kinds of lists, though she doesnt protect the Ravagers, but just mess with living models in general. I do not think you want to send her with two units of ravagers, but perhaps with a smaller contingent of models to lock down a flank against living models.
Krueger 2 with Rorsh (or all of them!)
Krueger is good with anything. He protects the lessers well with wind storm and He can increase threat ranges. Brine moving 12" and throwing a heavy (who was also moved 2" forward to be in the perfect spot) on top of a caster sounds good, right? If you play all the super friends, you can easily bring Rage or Primal for damage output and Krueger takes care of the shooting protection and threat ranges and now you have some pretty decent beasts!
Mohsar and Mire
Curse of shadows works to boost damage of anything and Pillars can protect your advance a bit, but i guess more importantly, Mohsar is very squishy and having a cloud wall is not bad for him. Maybe this is a place where you bring a Spitter for Mire and they hang back till late game, chipping in damage and covering Mohsar with clouds? Bonus points if you bring Croaks to take advantage of Weald Secrets and Curse of Shadows i guess...
Morvahna 1 and what ever
Mortality is good. The minion beasts do not hit very hard on their own. This could probably be good, right?
Tanith and Dhalia
Both Scyting touch and Affliction works here. Sprays that get get additional die to hit with RAT 8 and always breaking ARM can definitely do some work.
What have YOU been thinking about playing? Any other cool tech? Maybe even with Brun&Lug? They seem terrible to me, except to hilarity with befuddle, countercharge and return combos, and we cant do that
