Yup, and will probably directly compete with PP's warcaster game next year. Let the DOOM begin

why would you ever consider that a bad thing? if both games fill the same niche (which we don't know yet), that just means you have more options to choose from. if Warcaster goes under, it'll be because the game isn't as good as its competitors, in which case there'd be no reason to choose it and no reason to be sad it's gone. Mind, the spoilers for the spoilers for Warcaster aren't even out yet, so we're gonna have to wait until we actually have anything to judge the game by.

Basically, normies. Plus, as you said, the flavor doesn't overlap.

Will the minis be prepainted?

I think there is another game that it will be a bigger competitor of than Warcaster, and it's not HeroClix.

Will the minis be prepainted? No, according to info the models are hard plastic and come on sprues. You assemble and paint them yourself.

Maybe too much Hobby for MTG players but also too much game for Joanne fabric style normie hobby enthusiasts who might otherwise like painting the miniatures?

Flavor/Theme are huge, I personally couldn't care less a Marvel/Superhero minis game. Heroclix never caught my attention either. Glad those guys found a new home though.

speaking of which, even if this is slightly off topic, do you guys know any mini skirmish games set in our mundane modern reality? something about seeing the subway fight scene in the trailer rubbed me just the right way.

Very nice paint jobs on the minis in that video (and the terrain is nice too), but for some reason I'm feeling a little bit pessimistic about the actual retail models being of particularly high quality. Well, it would be nice if they do. I mean, I spent way too much money picking up all the Knight Models Marvel heroes after that line got discontinued, but there's plenty of gaps in the lineup that I'd love to see filled, so overall this looks promising to me (plus it could give me a live game to use said Knight Models in).
What I find a bit strange is that it's my impression that when creative types leave larger organizations it's usually because they feel restricted or stifled; they want to work somewhere smaller and less restrictive where they can be more creative. Working on a licensed property like Marvel's superheroes does not sound "less restrictive"? Of course it's a fresh product so they can design the rules from scratch (to an extent), while it's kind of hard to make big changes to WMH, so maybe it is actually less restrictive.
So Atomic Mass Games don't seem to have a website? That... doesn't sound like a very big company. I wonder how they landed a Marvel property?

Knight Model's Batman and DCU games fit - that's assuming the presence of superpowers isn't an issue as long as the setting is basically modern? Even then just the Batman game doesn't have too many super-powered characters so that might work for you.
Other than that nothing comes to mind. I'm curious myself now.
