On the bright side: I realized that my opponent was misplaying a couple of rules (on monsters I didn’t have) and that his crushingly oppressive “effectively win on monster turn 1” tactic isn’t actually legal. That took a lot of weight off my shoulders!
Remember: you can’t advance before Rampaging, and both Hammerklak’s Sprint and Mount Terra’s Tectonic Shift are advances!

Does that mean you can't step before rampaging? That would make me sad. I am also curious what this hack was, and particularly hour it is illegal.

Oh, and I bought Krakenoctus because I want to paint it. Now that I own a model I can play, right?

Stepping is specifically called “move” and not called an advance. Stepping is fine. Presumably the turn 1 Rampage balance mechanism there is burning tons of action dice to do it, and ending up vulnerable for a couple turns afterward.

Big K is my first purchase for the game, mind you. I do like the game and hope it flourishes locally and nationally, as it seems to be a litter, faster version of hordes. My next steps are to research octopi and maybe buy some swamp horror bits and repose it so it will never be ready to play with!

CRAAAAAAAAaaaaaaap.
Yesterday’s errata makes the Sprint+Tectonic Shift+Rampage tactic legal again.
That sucks.

P.S. — I have already talked to both Oz and DarkLegacy about this, and am due to demonstrate to Oz at some point this weekend...

The problem was ably demonstrated and Oz has a potential Crush Hour workaround cooking. We’ll see how long it takes and how it shakes out.

Slighlty off topic, but it's a bit vexing to me that the game has generated so many rules questions and that sort of thing. I know they released an errata document recently, will the changes from the errata be consolidated in to the original rulebook somehow? It would be nice to keep things simple somehow.

The errata was, like, 4 things.
Part of the reason for the disconnect and little wiggly rules questions was that MonPoc development changed hands in the middle of the process. It was Soles (operating under a certain set of assumptions) and got transferred to Oz (who revisited and changed certain assumptions). Krackenoctus and Hammerklak are the first monster releases that have been 100% in Oz's hands. He also stripped "Monument" off the various formerly-monument buildings, and re-did all the Faction bases so that everyone could benefit.
I suspect things will become much more solidified in the future.
