I would like to see a hired gun style theme for each faction which allows lots of mercs/minions and counts them for free points

I like the fix, but it would be easier to just say "no themes" for a given event. I think the game is perfectly playable without themes. I'd agree, and would expect casual players to do this normally especially as people are new to the game. What's most fun about Theme-less, to me, is putting together combos or unused pieces that are not common in the "top tier theme lists" . . . which tend to be somewhat similar. Many people want to play Steamroller and "practice their lists." As it stands now playing without a theme against a theme puts one at a significant disadvantage, so it would be cool if PP made something "official" that promoted Theme-less armies when playing against official themes.

I disagree that a single character warjack wont be a big swing. The biggest swings I can think of are Behemoth at 25pts and Deathjack at 23pts. Thats 5-10 free points more than you can get out of most themes. Most factions have an obvious and nasty pick at around 18-20pts, things like Avatar of Menoth, Imperatus, Thunderhead, Mulg and Molik Karn come to mind, and there are probably others out there. I'd say a free non character warjack or warbeast, with a maximum cost of... 15 (Maybe 18?). That'll get you a solid heavy for any list. Disagree, sure! If volume of points is your/the main 'thing'. I think the volume of points 'gained' is secondary, far less important than the selected Theme benefit(s). A tournament-list player is choosing their list based on Theme benefit and competitiveness of that Theme's basic points-gaining models first and foremost. The casual narrative 'non-theme' I proposed, and am currently organizing in our leagues/events has NO GLOBAL army benefit (except bump in caster survival), and instead encourages inclusion of a model (character Jack/beast) that is often severely theme restricted. I, for one, fielded Brickhouse in my non-theme list, ta-da! Model in my collection that has minimal competitive value gets field time. Yes, some folks playing this 'non-theme' will flock to the biggest/most points acquired character they can. I have little fear that if I played one of my more highly-tuned tourney theme-benefitted lists, an additional opposing single, non-120mm, character Jack or beast, regardless of point value, would not make that no-theme-havin' opposing army insurmountable. Rather, a good challenge. But I'd rather play my non-theme, for my Beast09, Zuriel, Ol Rowdy, Dozer/Smigg, Avatar, etc. ps. No offense, but a free non-character Jack/Beast is just boring

ps. No offense, but a free non-character Jack/Beast is just boring So convergence doesn't get anything and crucible guard and grymkin get 6 point solos. Doesn't seem very fair and balanced.

And I own all of Convergence, too. Doh! I guess when I'm asked for my narrative events I'd state that they'd get to add a (boring) heavy...Though no one has asked yet. Perhaps their Themes are too good? Also, how many of these three factions' large point models are sitting on shelves?... But really shouldn't you/they-all be asking instead..."Where's my character Jack or Beast?!!"

Generic bonuses
For 30 points in faction warbeast/ warjacks choose
+2 inches of deployment or turn one warjacks/warbeasts gain +2 spd.
For 30 points in faction battle engines/ structures choose
Army gains +1 to starting roll or one faction unit can apperate each turn.
For 30 pts of friendly units choose
Gain any two non-character faction solos free or one non-character faction min unit up to 9pts free.
This alows alot of flexibility in list building while still giving something for each choice.
Note solos do not add to any cost as i felt it best to keep super soldier armies in check

For simply competitive reasons, i don't want to see this happen.
if some kids at the home table want to do this, whatever, but i feel like it doesn't really add that much...it'll just create more broken scenarios since the restrictions are basically gone and to me that feels like a poor form for how tournaments should work.
