Afternoon all,
I posted a while ago about coming back to Protectorate from a break, and I wondered if anyone had any good recommendations about where to start with purchasing the mark 3 releases. I have pretty much everything from mk2 but I’m looking at KE officers, cinerators officers, warders, eye of truth, hand of silence and the tower-thing and wondering if there’s a best order to purchase them in?
Thanks in advancen

Warders and Severius0 are the most game-changing for our faction,IMO, and fit in a lot of different builds. I would start with those three ( 2 Warders and Sevvy ).
If you want to use Cinerators, their officer is definitely the way to go.
Anastasia diBray seems to be a staple in mk3 lists I keep seeing, so if you didn't buy her in mk2, now it's good time. Hard to beat what she has to offer for 3pts and I keep gravitating towards her in most of my lists.
Other than that, nothing really ubiquitous. Indictor is a really cool and inexpensive warjack, Champion and Initiates of the Wall are quite nice and useful(and Initiates free) in their theme. But none of those things have such universal impact as Warders and Sevvy0 in my opinion.

KE Officers, Warders, Eye of Truth, Cinerator Officer, Sevy0, Warder, and the Shrine are must-haves. No particular order, that depends on your playstyle.
Hand of Silence is meh. Ok if you're going for a soul centric list, but his abilities all kinda compete with each other. Either you're directing spirits to other models, or you're using his soul abilities, but both at the same time is largely impossible.
The Shrine is great if you like using Knights Exemplar, of any variety. Bringing up to 3 dudes back a turn is pretty sweet. Thats pretty much the only way I use it. It brings dudes back and shoots an unboosted shot into the enemy lines for fun and profit. Great combo with Harbinger. martyr till your out of it, bring back anybody you have to let go. Its very naughty with bastions, bastion seneschal with marshalled Devout, and Harbinger. If you can squeeze a Vessel in as well its just mean.

Of the things I can recall being new to Mk3, I favor:
1) Knights Exemplar UA. Basically never take KE without one, and these things make KE easily my favorite Exemplar unit. 2) Cinerator UA. I tend to not run Cinnys, but useful for the same reason as the KE UA. Basically crank the unit up to stupid-good. 3) Initiates of the Order of the Wall. 3 ARM 21 Shield Guards for 7 points (realistically 0, as they can be taken for free in Faithful Masses)? Yes Please. 4) Warders. I'd only get 1, personally, but it is a very handy 5-pt solo to have. 5) Sevvy0. On the one hand, it's uncommon for our casters to not mind jacks out of battlegroup. And Sevvy0 can only go into certain themes. On the other hand, eye of menoth. 6) Eye of Truth. Bomb-diggity jack, but paired with Malekus, who is...less than ideal.
Everything else, meh. They have their spots, but are getting more and more niche.

I'd order things differently depending on which themes you'd like to focus on: Flameguard - nothing really here. Creator's Might 1. Sevvy 0 - simply a must have 2. Warder - you'll use it a lot 3. Malekus + Eye of truth - unless you have a caster fetish, you won't use these often, perhaps leave until later. 4. Tristan2 - If you like him, more power to you... Exemplar 1. KE officers - you'll reach for them often across many casters, highly recommended 2. Cinerator officers - I don't run medium base exemplar too much, but if you do, you'll want them. 3. Sevvy 0 and warder - still great in this theme too. 4. Cyrenia - Good fun, and usable in more than 1 theme. 5. Elias Gade - Probably could be no. 4, but I don't use him a lot. 6. Shrine - I'm kind of down on the shrine, and typically opt to bring more infantry instead unless there's a targeted synergy like martyrdom. IMO leave until later. 7. Hand of silence - corner-case use with direct spirits and certain casters (e.g. Testament). Faithful Masses 1. Initiates - Get one and eventually 2. The only must-haves for this theme on this list. 2. Cyrenia - IMO just as good in this theme. 3. F3ora - Great fun, though not particularly strong. 4. Champs of the wall - Personally don't like their output for 8 points, no matter how survivable. You can live without them. 5. Hand of Silence - A very optional purchase.
Don't buy: 1. Revelator - Not until it's changed. Just too corner-case.

Adding in not to undervalue Hand of Silence. He also prevents enemy soul collection in his CMD. This can be very powerful against armies like Skorne Exalted, the soon-to-come Infernals, the HR/Testament mirror, etc. Exalted particularly hates it when you just run him up, shred their army, and they get zero soul juice to replenish their ranks or make their special rules work.

In addition to what everyone else said, this is currently all the models that work cross-theme:
4 themes:
All non-character warjacks Choir Vassal Vassal Mechanik Wracks
3 themes: Vessel of Judgement Shrine of the Lawgiver Reclaimer Gatekeeper Hierophant
2 themes: Covenant of Menoth Severius 0 Tristan Durant 1 Hand of Silence Exemplar Warders Exemplar Warder Elias Gade Rhoven and Co
Idrians are just a great buy, they can be your mercenary option in any of our not FM lists.

Shirne is very non-mandatory IMO.

Yeah, I wouldn't say it's mandatory. It is a piece that is usable in 3/4 of our current themes, and in addition to what everyone else has said, and what everyone else will say, makes it worth considering as a future purchase.
