So drove down for the IMC this last weekend and had a decent turnout of about 40 players. I was amazed that I was the only Cryx player(and I've only been playing Cryx for a month technically). Went with a Goreshade3 dark host list and a Venethrax Black Industries list but ended up playing Goreshade all day with how things worked out.
Goreshade3
-Scarlock
-Desecrator
-Ripjaw
-Defiler
-Deathripper
Wraith Engine
Tartarus
Wrathe
Max Bane Knights
Max Riders
Max Warriors
-Officer and Standard
Only reason I had a Skarlock was because I didn't get a Bane Knight officer in time.
1st Game: Played into a pretty typical Bradigus "all the wolds" list. We started with Mirage which was already rough and adding that I still wasn't 100% comfortable with my list and only partially remembered what his did, he had me by bottom of 3 on scenario. I could have scored to give myself one more round but I put Goreshade a quarter of an inch out of the zone thinking that I would have a whole unit in there and then ended up returning some and putting them outside the zone like a really smart guy. Surprisingly although there were no warriors to turn into Banes and my opponent had lots of RFP, I still managed to get several back into the game with Mockery.
2nd Game: Trollbloods, Madrak1, Band of Heroes. Surprisingly I wasn't doing too bad on attrition because my opponent was choosing to cleave instead of RFP with the fennblades so I was able to bring quite a few banes back. I was feeling pretty good on attrition and moving towards taking control on scenario and left Goreshade about 10.9 inches away from Madrak with probably 10 of my guys and 5 or so of his in between. Well he cleared all mine out and charged in and on the last fury laid the eldritch low.
3rd Game: Trollbloods, Madrak1, Storm of the North. Well no RFP but everyone but Madrak ignored my feat so that was a bit rough. This game was centered around the fact that my opponent probably got around 75% of his tough rolls and everyone was in Even Ground pretty much the whole time so no knockdown. I probably brought back around 20 banes but just could not clear any zones or really whittle down his forces. He ended up winning on turns and a scenario lead with 28 seconds left at the end. I teased him that if I had flipped the clock on his tough rolls he would have ran out of time. He did a really good job of staggering his guys so when I finally dead clear one he had another to replace it. In hind sight, Venethrax and mortality would have been great with this list but don't know if I could have chewed through that many bodies.
4th Game: Crucible Guard, Mackay, 2 battle engines. I was kind of tired and read his lists wrong because I definitely should have picked Venethrax but I got really lucky and my riders and WE were able to keep his RIs from just annihilating my other units and got Mackay on turn 4. I went second so my opponent didn't see my deployment but I'm pretty sure if he had put one RI on each side instead of both to one side I would have been in huge trouble. Those things are bonkers good.
All in all, I really felt like my lists weren't the problem in any of the games. I had tools, I just positioned poorly and didn't play for scenario correctly. And sometimes you're just going to run into 40 tough rolls(4 times on 1 stupid bear lol) and no amount of strategy will help.
