Yknow they're mocking the shit out of him and calling him a fascist there right? Yup. Read the article and all of that. Whatever. You know that my third comment was a joke, right? I mean, come on! I'd politely wait in line like any good midwesterner...

Still found this float more clever/well done than the Obama ones they have done for that festival.

The whole 40K/alt-right nexus is so wierd to me. Back in the late 1980s/early 1990s, WH40K was a fun but run-of-the-mill dystopian satire. Now it's like a perfect example of Poe's Law. Genestealer cults used to just be "Shadow Over Innsmouth... in space" but now they're like a sci-fi personification of white nationalist fears, and I don't even think the lore has changed. Maybe they weren't yet tyranids back then (I forget).

The whole 40K/alt-right nexus is so wierd to me. Even more odd to me because people are accuse of being alt-right, but aren't. Not to mention, the beliefs attributed to "alt-right" trend to be closer to more modern "left" views over all.
But I think that's where we reach Shiver's point about this not ending well.

I only meant to say that WH40K appears to have a special appeal for the alt-right, not that everybody into it is alt-right, or anybody in particular. Not trying to get into a left-vs-right discussion.

And I think that really shows more about the confusion of what the "alt-right" is. It's almost like a modern form of "cult" to be used against people you don't like more than being used with any strong understanding of that the term actually means. It was a term literally generated to be applied to people so it would provide further connections to other political groups who really have zero connection to them at all. I could go in to it more, but this really isn't the forum for such a discussion.

(If "Yellowstone Supervolcano Eruption" were one of the options for president to vote for, I would have given it some thought...) I voted for John Kasich in the Ohio presidential primary. Trying to be objective regarding Trump and what his presidency has brought about, I will say that one of the more interesting things that has come out of it is that he is forcing a 4 year-long reckoning to come about. The masks of impartiality on both sides are off, hidden agendas all around have emerged, and discussions that have been avoided are being had. But, yeah, golden presidential power armor. I didn't see that coming...

Not going to get sucked into the whole Trump/anti-trump thing (this is a respite from those discussions). I DO find really interesting that Warhammer has some (a lot?) of relationship to the whole Grimdark Genre. As pointed out, some 20-30 years ago 40K was so over the top ridiculous and implausible that it did kinda read like satire. Now there is an entire literature that looks at both SciFi and fantasy and thinks that 40K is tame and that it needs to be even darker. ;-)

Well, 40k invented the grimdark genre with their old slogan "In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war". It's natural that as the progenitor, the genre could only escalate beyond 40k (hey! Grimdark Creep!)
