If we were going to get proper heavy infantry it would most likely come from Hammerfall. Besides that happening the only other option atm is Llealese Resistance. I'm hopeful we could get medium based privateers on deep sea diving suits. Probably won't happen, but it could.

They could give them all a new ability unique to pirates that makes them more survivable. Something to the tune of:
Dirty Fighters: whenever this model misses an attack, you may recall that attack, a model may only reroll one attack per turn. Whenever this model is directly hit by an attack, you may have that model reroll that attack. A model can only be forced to reroll once as a result for dirty fighting.
Obviously clean up the language a bit there, but an idea that these guys can snag victory from defeat and make your opponents snag defeat from victory.

Two feat’s worth of power, in fact. Every turn.

Well the idea is a model can only fall for a dirty fighting trick once a turn. Shouldn't be to hard to keep track of. Example, a warjack swings at a pirate, and hits. The pirate player elects to use dirty fighting. Warjack rerolls. Kills that pirate. Swings other weapon at another pirate. That warjack already knows how this is going to go, no reroll can be used against it.
Basically just stealing a page from dnd 5th Ed with advantage and disadvantage.
It could be too powerful to have both, might need to have dirty fighting and deceitful slight as two keywords for different units

sorokin yeah small based infantry spam is already very prevalent in mercs, but as all the Privateer models are currently small base, there is not really any scope to drastically change that. If we were going to get proper heavy infantry it would most likely come from Hammerfall. Besides that happening the only other option atm is Llealese Resistance. I am hopeful for this CID though, from what Hungerford has been saying they want Talion to be a serious contender, but whether they fully comprehend the buffs needed to do that remains to be seen True, they can't exactly declare all seadog units to be medium based with 8 hitboxes after all. Llaelese resistance does need more llaelese units indeed, doubtful they'd be heavy infantry though. On a less serious note: Bart should totally pick up Field Marshal: Carapace!

It works in cryx (blighted ogrun) and dispite Pirates being mostly human i could see a few good ogrun picking up the skull and crossbones

On a related note: my copy of The Undercity just arrived, and it has two plastic Freebooters in it. PP: buff Freebooters pls!
Also I think I can probably field like five min units of Cutthroats now (would have to proxy three Croes though). One of the Cutthroats IS doing the limbo for some reason though. Should I try to straighten him out, or should I add a limbo bar to his base?

Do not know if this was mentioned but the new caster has manifest destiny as a spell It will be nice to fix the piss poor mat 6 on our Warjacks, but unless there are some serious focus efficiency changes, it's not as good as it looks
