So I e heard through the grape vine that privateers are going to be the next CID, figures I’d start this since no one else seems to have gotten the info. Yet

Maybe, Talion Charter will have some actual benefits after all this time. Dodge on Def 13 solos is so not worth it. Also hopefully they will streamline everything and make it so that you need 2 solos for the No-knock down tough combo rather than 4.

I'm not saying that its a bad theme, just that it wasnt a very exciting CID.
Mainly because there wasnt a new warcaster (not counting the RET one) or changes to old warcasters (Magnus1 could do with a boost).

The lack of a legacy caster in the merc CiD was pretty 'insulting', especially given that they introduced Garyth2 in the same sequence.

The only two solos needed for No-KD tough are Grogspar and, if the unit isn't Pressgangers, Rockbottom. Add Doc for Super Tough (4,5,6). What I'd like to see: 1) Make Shae Tough to match the rest of the Privateers. Not a Tough theme bonus as our 'premier' infantry and all our solos* are already tough. Giving all Privateer units Tough would mean a rework of Rockbottom. Also, Aiyana and Holt and the Mutineers are fone without tough. Fiona is a spellslinger and doesn't need it, imo. 2) Make the Swamp Gobber Raider good. Doesn't have to be great, but something to make me want to run a few in a list. *Also, he's our only solo without Tough. Maybe make the Bellows Crew a Privateer unit as well? Since they're all Swamp Gobbers? 3) New ranged light 'jack. Not looking for something spectacular, but I feel like Bart (and Caine3) would really like a shooty light. Other than that, minor tweaks to jacks (giving the Buccaneer an AOE net and removing the Loader from the Mariner are two right off the top of my head) and reworking theme benefits would be great.

It's 3 not 4, since realistically, you NEED Doc as well, because Sea Dogs need any survivability they can get. My point is that other armies by this point have access to no-kd tough as well, albeit they get it A: from their casters (Irusk2, Damiano in part) or B: from better solos (Gravus). They usually have better stats as well (Exemplars, Men-o-War, Trenchers). Compared to that, pirates are less exiting, since you need to take a handful of mediocre solos to get the same buffs other factions get on a budget.

You are comparing taking 3 solos for No-KD Tough on 4-6 while in command range to No-KD Tough on 5-6 while in command range of a Warcaster who spent a focus to upkeep. Not quite the same thing. Also, Gravus does not provide Tough, just No-KD. Do Sea Dogs need more survivability? If nothing else changes with their rules, you betcha. At the moment, they're pretty much just a throw away jammer (upgrade to "tar-pit" with the solos) that might kill something. But if the sea dogs get buffs to their base stats to bring them up to par with other units in the main factions, I wouldn't expect to see much changed on the solos. It's pretty much as streamlined as it's going to be and the whole point of pirates is bringing solos to make your dudes better. I see them making slight changes to base stats for most solos,the Sea Dog Crew, and the Deck Gun. Commodore might get more movement (maybe). If any Pirate solos need to change, though, it's Bradigan and the Raider. They just need reworks.
