So, I’ve been away for awhile, and I come back to find Tharn EVERYWHERE! They’re annoying with their rapid healing and tough. So, what are people running into them?
I’ve been thinking of Deneghra3 to make use of Mortality. Maybe something like the following:
War Room Army
Cryx - Deneghra3 with Nyss Black Industries
Theme: Black Industries 2 / 2 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army
Deneghra, the Soul Weaver - WJ: +27 - Leviathan - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 16) - Leviathan - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 11) - Seether - PC: 13 - Nightwretch - PC: 0 - Nightwretch - PC: 0
Aiakos, Scourge of the Meredius - PC: 4 - Stalker - PC: 8 - Stalker - PC: 8 Soul Trapper - PC: 1 Soul Trapper - PC: 1 Warwitch Siren - PC: 4 Warwitch Siren - PC: 4
Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters - Cylena & 9 Grunts: 19 Cephalyx Overlords - Leader & 2 Grunts: 8
THEME: Black Industries ---
The idea would be to be able to Mortality two units of Tharn and have Nyss shooting at range 12 (threat 19”), needing a 5 to hit and 8 to kill Ravagers. Overlords could work on the other unit, with Aiakos’s Stalkers available to do some clean-up as necessary. Leviathans are also great with Mortality and Scourge.
I’m not sure that the list would have much going for it into other lists. I’d want to pair it with my Skarre3 SF list, with which I’ve struggled a little into the Tharn lists around here. The other thing I want to build for would be to face Baldwin CG, and I don’t see this Denny3 list doing that well there.
What have been your experiences and best lists into Tharn?

So Circle as a faction is currently one of the hardest match ups for Cryx.
When coming up with a counter to the Tharn, you have to consider who's running it, and who their list pair is. The main tharn casters are generally Wurmwood, Iona and Morvahna2, and it's common to see some kind of either Tharn or Bones pairing such as with K2 Bones or Wurmwood bones.
This is what's being run against circle by a well known UK player:
War Room Army
Cryx - alt
Theme: Black Industries
2 / 2 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army
Pirate Queen Skarre - WJ: +28
- The Withershadow Combine - Maelovus, Admonia & Tremulus: 9
- Stalker - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8)
- Stalker - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8)
- Stalker - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8)
- Stalker - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 4)
- Stalker - PC: 8
- Nightwretch - PC: 0
Aiakos, Scourge of the Meredius - PC: 4
- Kraken - PC: 36
- Scavenger - PC: 0
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor - PC: 5
Scrap Thrall - 3 Scrap Thrall: 2
Soul Trapper - PC: 1
Black Ogrun Ironmongers - Leader & 2 Grunts: 6
THEME: Black Industries
---
GENERATED : 01/10/2019 11:18:10
BUILD ID : 2069.18-10-06
personally i am quite intrigued by it and want to give it a go into circle. it should reasonably handle circle

Ahh. Thanks, challenger. That looks like a fun list. I was looking to try BI, but not sure what caster/list would work well there against Tharn. I’ll have to give that a try.

So the stalkers provide threat/mobility and remove tough. The kraken removes from play and shuts down recursion that Morvana might bring, for the few things it can reach. Under Skarre's feat turn, it will be really hard to remove your pieces, you don't bring many corpses for the tharn to get, and without corpses, your high defense of your stalkers will be hard to hit, and the high armor/boxes of the kraken will be hard to manage. I like it, too bad I only own two stalkers.

I've only face them once and ran something similar to the above: conflictchamber.com/#c4201b_-0U0F1e1v1v1h1h0te2kw1h2of0lP1f1hkj32Cryx Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Black Industries [Skarre 1] Pirate Queen Skarre [+28] - Ripjaw [0(7)] - Slayer [10] - Slayer [10] - Stalker [8] - Stalker [8] - The Withershadow Combine [9] Aiakos, Scourge of the Meredius [4] - Kharybdis [17] - Stalker [8] Scrap Thrall (3) [2] Soul Trapper [1] Warwitch Initiate Deneghra [4] - Nightwretch [0(7)] - Stalker [8] Black Ogrun Ironmongers [6] Cephalyx Overlords [8] It was still a really tough game and ended with the tentacle monster uprooting the tree. Denny 3 should work as well, but I'm not sure if Aiakos would not better off as another Leviathan?

Aiakos actually means the kraken and the scavenger he's running have grievous wounds too! add to that Skarre and the spell slave member of the WSC have an anti tough spell (Hellfire) and the list as a whole is really good at killing tough models

Upkeeping Escort and casting Deathbringers also doesn't leave much room to allocate.

I honestly don't know why you would do that as the only useful shot would be Burster, because he only has 5 boxes, so Distillation is not likely to come up and he doesn't have any spells to arc. If you want to give him a ranged jack, I suggest a Leviathan, even though I think Leviathans in general are a bit disappointing. I have been liking him with Kharybdis as a mini-Kraken though. You still don't want to lose him, but it's at least less of a hit if you do.

That is fair, I was mainly thinking of that because I run Skarre2 a bit, so getting off a second Burster shot from Black Spot seems pretty nice... However, I would likely just run the Corruptor on Skarre2 anyways, so I guess that was a pretty pointless thing to bring up haha.

Not sure if you're playing that correctly, but Burster doesn't trigger Black Spot, because it never destroys. The only thing that triggers Black Spot is Distillation. So, you could distill something and then use Burster, but not double Burster.

I think it is time I stopped.

On topic: Denny 3 with 2 units of Smog Belchers and some other shooting should be hilarious against Tharn. Maybe something like: conflictchamber.com/#c4201b_-0VeZ191s1skpkr2IkqkikikgkkkokoCryx Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Slaughter Fleet Raiders [Deneghra 3] Deneghra, the Soul Weaver [+27] - Deathripper [6] - Leviathan [16] - Leviathan [16] - Satyxis Blood Priestess [0(4)] Axiara Wraithblade [0(6)] General Gerlak Slaughterborn [0(6)] Misery Cage [2] Black Ogrun Smog Belchers (max) [15] Black Ogrun Smog Belchers (max) [15] Blighted Trollkin Marauders (max) [15] - Jussika Bloodtongue [5] Scharde Dirge Seers [6] Scharde Dirge Seers [6]

Just wondering, what do people think of internal machines theme into tharn? I keep thinking it has enough shield guards to either stop LotF from porting in or send him somewhere he'll only get a few 1pt models. Auto hits from biles to circumvent tharn defense. Birds have finisher and cma to go after any guys that are damaged. And for warnouns maybe Termy and a pair of seethers to have sac pawn for LotF plus counter charge if they try to pacman through your ranks. Or Shade3 for extra recursion and a feat that negates tharn defense and can possibly time walk them...? Of course this is all theory-machine as I've been unable to play for a while so take all this with a massive grain of salt.
