Hello all! I am just getting back into Warmahordes for MKIII and bought a black friday mystery box. My other armies are Cygnar and Skorne. Retribution was always so far from my thoughts that I would not even list them when I thought about the factions in Warmachine. I knew nothing about them other than they were the elves of the universe that nobody played. I now own quite a few Retribution models and am trying to sort out how I approach the table with them. At first glance these models seem to me like they favor the Defenders of Ios theme with Issyria. Anyone willing to share thoughts on support models or casters that would best fit with the models below?
Collosal 2x Chimera Gorgon Griffon Shyeel Heavy 2x Houseguard Riflemen Houseguard Halberdiers Ryssovass Defenders

Your question is what makes Retribution so much fun to play. But before we can fully discuss lists and give advice, we need more details please. Which Collosal, which Shyeel Heavy?
You are correct however about the theme, based upon your units, a Defender of Ios theme is what you want to build towards.
Do you like to play a ranged game, or do you enjoy mixing it up in melee? Do you like simple tactics or do you enjoy a more strategic game experience? These questions will help in your caster selection.
Issyria is a great choice, but Ghyrrshyld would be another. Ossyan and Kaelyssa are great choices for the ranged gameplay, where as Elara can push your Halberdiers and Defenders deep into your enemies line.

Thanks for replying, Bluebeard. The most fun I have ever had playing was with Siege Brisbane, a Stormwall and a couple units of ATGM in MKII. I find high def evasive type models who are able to push enemy models around the board to be hilariously fun to play (although it may lose me friends). I prefer a solid ranged game with a few melee elements to provide security and then lots of models who specialize in interfering with the opponent's plans. The Helios brought a huge smile to my face when I read about that gun. Weakest gun in the game on paper, but the most fun gun I have ever seen and one I would love to field. My initial thoughts on the heavy Myrmidon were leaning towards the Hydra. I love models that focus on ranged damage output but have an acceptable melee game when it comes time. In my other factions I prefer models like the Defender, Charger or Titan Cannoneer and the Hydra feels very much like those with it's own twist. My first choice of caster was Ossyan, but I tend to play my casters too forward and have an aggressive play style. Issyria seemed like the type of caster who would never give me a reason to want to rush her head first into combat and would enforce some discipline on my play.

Well, unfortunately our best 'mess with your opponent' caster is Rahn. You could use him, but he really shines when you have battle mages in his list. I may take a lot of ridicule for this suggestion, but I believe Ravyn is a good caster to give a try. First off her feat makes all of your ranged attacks more accurate by auto boosting all friendly ranged attacks in her control, then you get to move 2 inches after resolving your attacks. So you would be able to move up just in enemy charge distance, shoot, and then you can back out. To be honest the second part of her feat ins't really what you take her for, haha. The spells she brings are what make her my suggestion to you.
Veil of Mists - a 4 inch aoe cloud that lets your units move through obstructions and hands out pathfinder. So that wall or woods they are hiding their key pieces behind is null and void.
Snipe - great for ranged threat extension. A key model to place it on is the Hyperion. The next spell explains why.
Open Fire - Target battle group model gets to make one basic ranged or melee attack. To simply state the strategy here; snipe, feat, open fire, activate Hyperion and shot big ass gun again. so in one turn you get to shoot 2 d3 thresher cannons and 2x 5 in AOEs from one model...
Countermeasure - by applying this spell onto a melee unit you can keep any of their models from shooting you if they are in 5 inches. So Halberdiers can get advanced move (6 inches) from theme, get desperate pace from the thane and then run up 14 (12+2) more inches. So on your first turn you have just moved up the board 20 inches and be Arm 18 (shield wall) with reach and no shooting withing 5 inches of them.
So a strategy you could deploy would be to fully extend your halberdiers up the board, then push centrally with hyperion with Ravyn right behind. Then use the riflemen to secure each flank. Any terrain issues can be ignored due to veil of mists. Hopefully this was helpful, and good luck!

Thanks again. Ravyn looks like she might be a good for me to learn the faction as she doesn't seem very complicated and can get some use out of all these models. Let them ridicule if they must. Often times we learn much better from seeing people disagree on a subject than we do if everyone agrees but we cannot understand why. I appreciate your input.
