I'm curious why Grim2 is considered weak these days. Wasn't he really hot in MKII? If I want something so difficult to play I will grab Kolgrima who is better situated in the meta right now and more powerful overall.

Top 1? I'd have to give it to Kolgrima. Personally, I think Madrak's almost as good as Kolgrima and much easier to play, so no argument from me for anyone who thinks he's better, but Kolgrima just does so much more every turn.
Bottom 3? Madrak3 - This hurts to say because he's got so many cool things going for him...the issue is that they all work against his party-piece protective aura. Additionally, his feat is basically a coin flip that is only useful after you've over-exposed your army to getting shot off the table. Doomy1 - great against enemy casters that want to spend a ton of focus/fury and have a ton of upkeeps and play a ton of jacks/beasts... Grissel1 - But only really because I have to choose a third and her feat just isn't much of a feat. I'm still not sure why she personally was hit so hard in the transition to Mk3 when her normal miserable meat mountain list was killed by the Mk2 Warder Weaponmaster nerf and then buried by the Mk3 Warder 8->5 box nerf. That said, her spell list is great and sending a unit of Raiders inside your opponent's AD line on Turn 1 is hilarious and can give you a huge scenario advantage.
As for the rest of those mentioned: Borka1's a bit boring but not bad; Grim2 I can't come up with a comfortable list for him but he still feels powerful, is fun to play, and his assassination game is as solid as ever; Horgle2 I've never played, but it's not like we don't have a ton of options for setting things on fire.
Can I give an (dis?)honorable mention to Calandra? On paper, everything about her looks great. I haven't felt comfortable with her for awhile now (bit like Grim2 TBH).

I am shocked I lately switched my list from Madrak 1 to Calandra, and she is amazing. I was torn which I should choose, as my top She is in my opinion more universal list than Madrak. When you face range army, you most likely have another list, beside Madrak, but when you are playing Calandra I think you still can choose it to play vs range.

Yeah, it's strange but she just doesn't seem to actually be as strong as she looks on paper. Maybe it's because she doesn't offer any particular help in dealing with units, but we can build the rest of the list for that. We do see more battle engines now, though, and Befuddle can mess with them even from the Runebearer. Still, it feels like Madrak 1 runs units better and Doomy 2 runs dire trolls better, and so on. That said, I considered using Calandra in my Champions pairing with Northkin units that both throw lots of dice around and have high DEF.

Best Kolgimma!
Coolest model: Madrak 3
Worst without question MADRAK 3
So sad he so misplaced!
Horgle goes in as second worst!

Best is probably Kolgrima but I still get better results with Grim1. Worst: Grissel1 (sadface), Madrak3, Horgle2. The people claiming Grim2 is bad are wrong. He's amazing. It's just the rest of the faction doesn't work so good with him.

With great love and affection to my fellow troll players, I think Grissel 1 is a great caster...........

The free "spell" every turn via Fell Call, Calamity, and Boundless charge just seem like they should add up and don't. I put her mid-tier I think. The water gets real muddy down there at the bottom....

You shouldn't stop playing another caster, because others don't like her, but I played her MK2 and it hurts too much for to see what she's become personally.

Best ? I would say Kolgrima, and then Madrak1
3 worst ? Doomy1, Madrak 3 (he has no purpose since madrak1 exist) and Borka1 (kinda the same for him).
I personnally really like Grissel1, she has really good spells and her fellcalls are really powerfull. If my trolls weren't stolen I would have played her in SoTN with bears in AD (for 14" threat possibly pow 20/19 bears with 4 attacks each).

My favorite is the stone speed+hoof it to move the bears two feet to execute a flask threat from near the middle of the board, though. I really think that most of the hate she suffers is from comparison to her Mark II incarnation, which is not really fair, even if it is entirely understandable.

I'm surprised that Horgle comes up in the bottom 3. Solid ground is great for trolls and he's the only caster with an inherent armor buff that doesn't have "restrictions". His feat can be either great or meh but I feel like his total package is pretty solid.

I see a lot of casters here, but no one is mentioning gunnbjorn at all. Where do we place him? I'm not a very competitive player but I love to play him, and usually find great success with northkin elder, glacier king and a bomber in sotn.
