So all the cool kids and bandying about the concept of Sweeper and Pivot, my understanding is that it pretty much boils down to having one list that asks a tough question (Sweeper) and then a flexible/all-comers/utility list as a back-up in case they have a good answer for your Sweeper (Pivot).
I have been toying with the following as a list pair, any feedback would be appreciated (bearing in mind my Merc collection is not fully fledged, so I don't have access to any Rhulic Jacks, 7+ Nomads or 40+ Steelhead Halbs)
So first up the Sweeper
Mercenary Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] The Irregulars
[Magnus 2] Magnus the Warlord [+28]
- Mangler [15]
- Mangler [15]

- Renegade [10]
- Rover [15]
- Vanguard [10]
- Sylys Wyshnalyrr, the Seeker [0(4)]
Anastasia di Bray [3]

Magnus seems like an obvious choice for a Sweeper, lots of relatively hard to kill warjacks and great control feat. Anastasia and the Eliminators are to contest opponents scenario elements, Orin to help keep Magnus alive, Eilish to help land Calamity and/or Harm, Ragman because...well, cos Ragman!
The only thing I really don't want to see is powerful Gunlines, which brings me onto

So I know this is maybe an atypical anti-gunline list, but it does have a few things going for it; Submerge on Wrong Eye and Snapjaw, Mini-feat Dig in on the Idrians, Quicken, Eliminators are stealthy, Distraction can stop units shooting. It also has cloud removal, and again Anastasia and Eliminators to contest scenario.
I have decided to put Orin in both lists, so that my list choice is not dictated to me if I see a strong spell assassination across the table, likewise Aiyana and Holt are in both lists, so I can have high powered magic weapons in case I see Denny 2 or Wraith Engines.
what do you reckon?

My problem is I cannot get hold of any Drillers atm the supplier who casts them for the UK is awaiting a new mold apparently mmmkay... option 2 is a fiona arm skew. her arc node kills cassius with soulfire and she uses the feat to get up. we talkin vanguards, rovers, nomads and talons. snapjaw is ok too but spensive. it is mebbe not a "pivot" list but i never bought into banky's pseudo intellectual twaddle |

As much as i personally detest the terms in your title i will weigh in with a few questions.
It seems your Magnis 2 list is designed to be a high melee armor brick list. It fundamentally has limited magic weapons and a set numbers of both melee and ranged attacks each turn.
While your Ashlyn 1 list seems to be hinged on a few battlegroups and high mo ility infantrymen to close the ranged gaps. But it still contains the above problem of limited magical attacks.
Yes i see Ayanna and holt are in both pairings but to me that screems a red flag.
So to that end i do not know of you can gain models but i recommend a paird list that can take the ranged game to an opponent as well. (Melee stills important).
I wiuld look into the Resistance for your *gags* pivoit list (again hate the term)
For your units i recomend a non typical list. Two units of exemplar errants with ua and two units of thorn gunmages bring a very high fast and accurate range presence that can battle out in melee. Each unit ois self suficiant and advance deploys with blessed magical guns and weapon master melee.
For warjacks it really is up to you. Just having the 4 units max with two free ua is a 50 pt army. All of them are llaelese models and gain the +1 attack roll stat from the warcaster in her cmd. Melee presence and self sack means holding zones can be alittle easier and yah it works great with her feat for a accurate hard hitting aplha.
The lists this is good again is other gunlines, infantey spam (weaponmaster or high numbers) and moderately well into mid tier def spam (13-15)
Uour magnus list has armor cracking and limited model lists down very well and as a pair i personally dont see a hige problem outside maybe 3 specific caster lists. So its fairly good.

I think Ashlynn has a fair amount of magic attacks that can kill infantry, Orin, Eilish, Ragman (I love a good Boneshaker sometimes), Edrea. My other thought for a second list was Crosse in Irregulars, as he is pretty nifty with his gun, and 10 Shield Guards seems ok, but there is something about Ashlynn's feat I just love, just a big 'nope' to your opponent.

I do have Stormblades and Trenchers, but then Crosse loses out on Reinholdt and Edrea, so stealth and clouds screw him over. That's not to say I don't think Crosse would be good in Resistance, but I want my second list to have an answer for clouds, and with my collection at the moment that means Irregulars with Edrea |
