I'm pretty psyched for Monsterpocalypse. Did anybody pick up one of the starter boxes at GenCon? The rules look good, but I'm curious as to what people think.
Hopefully people will find this thread and share their thoughts.

I wasn't at GenCon, but plan to buy quite a bunch of stuff when it arrives. I order Brewgrash off their website, and as a former Lords of Cthul player, I expect I'll focus on them for quite some time when their stuff gets released.

Some of the retired war machine players from my meta plan to pick it up, I expect they will demo it for me. I am skeptical, but willing to be impressed.

I think it's September 21st for the starter boxes and the G.U.A.R.D. and Planet Eaters units. I don't think they've set official dates for the other stuff, but I think they're supposed to be out some time in October.

After watching the first iteration faceplant, I'm also skeptical. I'm rooting for PP to diversify their revenue streams but this just doesn't grab me. :/

Never played it, and I have never seen it played. It was in an old LGS for about a year or two, but other than excitement over the concept, along with King of Tokyo, I saw no other action with them. Games were still the Warhammers and WarmaHordes in those days.
I love the concept and hope to be able to play it with a faction I find interesting. I'm not finding the G.U.A.R.D. and Planet Eaters that interesting. Right now, the Terrasaurs have my interest for the first wave, but I haven't seen the models as yet. The Syndicate or Martians may turn out better.

Yeah, I'm not psyched about G.U.A.R.D. or Planet Eaters. In a world where dinosaurs are a playable faction... Okay, maybe Martians will be cool... And I should probably buy some G.U.A.R.D. so I can play two monster games... Damn it.

I'm not finding the G.U.A.R.D. and Planet Eaters that interesting. I've been keeping a bit of an eye on Monsterpocalypse, but while there's nothing wrong with the initial model designs or anything, I also don't feel particularly interested in them. Matter of taste I guess. On the other hand, a couple of weeks ago I saw Infinity's Ariadna Blackjacks for the first time and I immediately bought both variations because they look amazing to me. So until I see some Monsterpocalypse models that I feel drawn to, I'm only going to be watching.

I'm rooting for PP to diversify their revenue streams but this just doesn't grab me. :/ The first iteration had problems because it was: 1) For most of its life, a blind-buy booster collectible minis game 2) Warmachine MK-I-style power creep with every new release 3) Overly complicated (did you really need 5 or 6 separate Pathfinder equivalents, or stat cards packed with 30 different ability icons?) 4) Super-aggressive release schedule. The game was as big as Warmachine & Hordes (in terms of model counts and factions) in less than two years. Having played the new MonPoc: it is tons of fun! Bodyslamming giant monsters into buildings is pretty sweet.

Yeah, I remember the random thing. Ugh. I hope this time the overall game differs enough to sell better. From what I've seen, I do like the larger size of models compared to most of WM/H. Heck, if they come out with a faction half as cool as any of several in Warmachine, they'll certainly get my attention.
For me, with time, money and energy to focus on just one wargame at a time, though, the aesthetic and fluff have to absolutely rock. (Largely subjective, of course.) Soul's point about those Blackjacks is how I felt about Man-o-War after seeing my first. It may sound silly but I'm looking for detail and immersion over simpler cartoony stuff. Sure it's a "body slam into buildings" game, but I'll personally be looking for something motivating I can get serious with at the painting table.

I know it's a business move to do random stuff in a box, and that's fine if it is dirt cheap like a bouncy ball. People usually have to buy more in order to get what they want, theoretically. The problem is, you get certain people, like some of us, who see that as a ponzi scheme since we don't want to get something we don't want.
Oddly enough, this Mystery Box sale was not much different. Oddly enough, I probably would have went in, if I had the money, mainly because I want to get my hands on as many of the Battleboxes and such as I can so people can try them out when they visit for the holidays.

Absolutely. I don't pay money for mystery stuff: I buy the exact items that I want, no more, no less (well, as much as possible anyway), even if I have to pay a bit more. I was quite surprised actually at how many people where getting so excited about the recent PP mystery box stuff. But then I'm not a gambler by nature; seems some people enjoy that element of risk? (Also it would be much harder for me to trade away the stuff I don't want than I guess it would be for many people due to my location and the lack of local players, so the risk is much higher for me than for people in active metas).

The MonPoc models are pretty sweet. I love the G-Tanks and Defender X. They are tons of fun to paint and I think they look awesome!
Regarding Mystery Boxes: I got one, but only because it was guaranteed to have a huge base, and it was a slim chance that it would duplicate anything I had. I wanted something cheap and new to paint.
