So after last weeks hilarious mistake I went to game night with one goal, remember grievous wounds! Let's see if I remember...
We ended up playing 2 games as the first one as short enough but still an interesting puzzle
So my opponent was rocking something like this:
Mordikaar, Despoiler, Gladiator, Archidon, Beast Handlers, Karax with UA, Keltarii, Legends of Halaak, TyCom, Willbreaker, Hakaar the destroyer, 2 x void spirits
And I was playing with my habitual Iona list.
We were playing the pit 2 and he won the roll so was going first. Sides being more or less equal I picked the side that had a more offensively placed forest.
Terrain
In the middle a forest, on my side there was a hill, a pond and a patch of rubble, on his side there was a trench some rubble and a forest to the far right just on his side of my zone.
Deployment
Mine is my usual symmetric style and his had his unit of karax heading towards my zone, his unit of keltarii towards his zone, his caster Ty Comm and solos central, Archidon supporting the keltarii, despoiler the karax and the gladiator and beast handlers were slightly behind the front lines
Skorne Turn 1
He runs forward, Hollow goes on the karax and flesh hardening from the will breaker gives the keltarii tough
Circle Turn 1
I run forward a bit, just so I can threaten the right zone and on the left further back but with a ravager in threat so he will hopefully have to give me vengeance. Surefoot goes on that unit. Wolf riders circle. Pot fills up LotF.
Skorne Turn 2
Keltarii jam me (forgot about parry). Karax minifeat and shieldwall. Void spirit jams one of my champs on the right hand side. Mordikaar feats, puts ups Manifest void and essence blasts Brighid to death. Everything else positions around.
Circle Turn 2
I ambush to kill the void spirit. I see hakaar looks close enough to Mordikaar and indeed he is, and he's in a place where I cant be pushed away. I can also get one ravager onto him so I spend my whole turn clearing off LotF and that ravager and then kill Morkikaar. He's Def 18 so I feated and put up puppetmaster. LotF leaves him on 1 or 2, killing the archidon through my WRC's activation earlier in the turn and the transfer damage, and the ravager boosts his hit and at dice plus 3 it was good night Irene...
As this was a mistake (and by not casting Manifest void he survives easily) we rerack, as my whole turn was based around setting up that assassination there's no good way to go back so we just head back to the start.
Deployment Game 2
Skorne changes it up slightly, he keeps the kelatrii on the left, but the karax are central now and his legends are going for my zone. Beasts are all slightly more central and he keeps hakaar away from his caster...
I change up my usual so that my ravagers are much more spread out and will be able to flank around easier, hoping to force him to get less use out of his feat, but I still keep a ravager from each unit near enough to Iona so I can get my upkeeps out as required.
Skorne Turn 1
He runs forward, hollow goes out on the keltarii this turn and the willbreaker makes the karax tough.
Circle Turn 1
I try and get as far forward as I can while still staying out of threat in most cases. I give him a shot at two ravagers with the legends but with DEF15 I feel ok. Wolf Rider Champs circle once again. Pot fills up feast again.
Skorne Turn 2
Upkeeps Hollow. He goes for it with the legends and kills a ravager and makes another dodge away. He jams again with his keltarii and shield walls up with his Karax. Mordikaar goes and feats, blasts Brighid off the face off the earth again and calls it turn.
Circle Turn 2
No ambush, Upkeep Sure Foot. I puppet master the Night witch who gets rid of hollow. I spend the rest of the turn trying to kill keltarii with Ravagers, Caul, Iona and the Stalker. Reasoning here is I can cement this flank and then push all the way back if my other flank can tie him up/hang on since the forest in the middle blocks him off. I didn't feat here but looking back maybe I should have if only for the rerolls. LotF and my WRC kill off Hakaar. My WRC kills some beast handlers for lack of better targets and then goes to hide behind a forest. My other Ravagers run into the safety of the offensively placed forest to be def 17, one or two stay in the zone to contest. My other Stalker walked back into control and riled.
Skorne Turn 3
Willbreaker gives puppet master to a Void spirit kills LotF on the reroll, then jumps into a WRC which he fails to kill. Despoiler rolls a casual box cars to hit my ravager in the forest and spawns a void spirit. He kills another ravager with despoiler and a few more after great effort from an archidon on one who toughed twice. Between all that I have 3 ravagers left including the chief although none in the zone but he had to put so much into the ravagers that he couldn't kill the objective. Remaining keltarii fail to kill my gobber chef (in the back) and my blood witch. Karax gang up on Caul and leave him on a few. Void spirit kills Caul and the gobber chef instead. Mordikaar casts manifest void and camps this turn I think.
He scores the centre zone. 1-0 skorne.
Circle Turn 3
Vengeance kills the void spirit and I ambush. I drop Sure foot. My WRC kills the void spirit that tried to kill her and the pot kills the last one. The second WRC hops into Despoilers back and does a truck load of damage leaving him on like 3 boxes? The ravagers finish him off and do some chip damage to the archidon. Blood weavers ambush into the legends, one dies to defensive strike, and then the fail to hit for the most part and the one hit fails to kill but they're there to contest. My Stalker kills to objective and a keltarii. The Ravagers, Night Witch and Iona finish them off. Iona also puts sure foot on the unit of ravagers near her now. My other Stalker walks into the back of a karax shield wall and berserks 3/4 of them dead before sprinting out of sight of his gladiator.
I score my zone and the objective so 2-1 Circle.
Skorne Turn 4
His gladiator kills the objective and the legends + an essence blast clears the zone. Karax run to jam/contest. Archidon tries to kill some more ravagers...can't remember if he did or not. Something hits one of my ravagers but dont remember what because they had vengeance next turn...I was pretty tight on time at this point just over 10 minutes.
Score 3-2 to Skorne.
Circle Turn 4
Vengeance kills a few karax. Upkeep Sure foot. Pot pulls the gladiator slightly closer to the pot. Iona lands a hunters mark on it. Stalker kills it and sprints into Mordikaars face. at this point my opponent concedes.
Thoughts, I said it to my opponent if you don't kill enough on the turn after your feat I will grind it out and I was correct. Even with the Masters of War ignoring my tough the general high def and his lack of real hitting power makes this game favoured for circle. HE has to really leverage his void spirits and he put them into solos instead of ravagers which I think was a mistake. Anyway thanks for reading.
