So who's been testing this guy out since his rework I think he looks pretty cool now. He has a pretty decent feat, he has a cool toolbox and arcane vortex is nice. I have an list for him which I'm now going to be testing out what do you guys think and has anyone else got any ideas or what have you been testing ?
Retribution Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Legions of Dawn (CID)
!!! Your army contains CID entries. !!! You are using a pre-release theme.
[Goreshade 4] Lord Ghyrrshyld, the Forgiven [+28] - Chimera [8] - Imperatus [20] Dawnguard Sentinel Scyir [0(4)] Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress [0(4)] Lys Healer [3] Dawnguard Sentinels (max) [17] - Dawnguard Sentinel Officer & Standard [0(4)] - Soulless Escort (1) [1] Dawnguard Sentinels (max) [17] - Dawnguard Sentinel Officer & Standard [4] - Soulless Escort (1) [1] Dawnguard Trident [16] Dawnguard Trident [16]
Im open to any criticism or feedback so habe it at. The idea of the list is that the sentinels can survive to jam for the feat turn and if they die then the enemy goes stationary so my tridents are super accurate. Theres also an decent number of bodies for focus for him. The sentinels have an unit at arm 20 with tough from his spell and no KD from the healer and i am able to revive them. Theu also have a turn at arm 23. The scyir is there to help with charges and allowing them to move through each other meaning I can keep them base to base until I charge and then I can get more guys into the fight. The trident and lanyssa can also give an extra 4 inches of threat for imperatus and allow him a free charge so he can really go to down and he threatens 15" then he also has 2 side steps for a total of 19" non linear threat and he can make it there with 3 focus. Also a ghostly imperatus sounds fun. The only thing I was considering is dropping one of the tridents I'm not sure he does alot for them. I was considering an jack to go with the scyir as it gets the flank bonus from the sentinels with the theme.

I don't think Dawnlord Vyros would appreciate this 'redeemed' traitor going anywhere near his Imperatus.

I don't think Dawnlord Vyros would appreciate this 'redeemed' traitor going anywhere near his Imperatus. From a fluff perspective, Vyros' place in what is ostensibly 'his' sub-faction's theme really bugs me. Vyros1... feat = flank for one set of jacks, while theme benefit is flank for the other set of jacks *headdesk* while Vyros2 has Synergy. I really don't think he should even need to address the argument of Synergy vs Flank. And now both Ossyan and Ghyrrshyld both get to play with Imperatus in a theme they can (debatably) do more with and for?! PP done made a pissed off elf! XD

Sorry, started an off topic tangent. To answer the OP question; Gastone has just recently posted a batrep in Isotopes CID thread about G4. It's a good read. I have yet to play with him at all. Maybe it's just my bad memories of Goreshade from Cryx, haha.

I did see the other report using the marshalled daemons and they have some.nice troop clearing ability which could be good in certain match ups allowing the sents to get beyond any screening units as it's like a mini hellmouth. Although I'm kinda really liking the Jack's being on goreshade for the arcane vortex as it's a 3 inch bubble with him and a couple Jack's I can cover most of the army, plus the soulless reducing the range feels like he really shuts down on magic. Against non gun lines the feat is fantastic the souls and stationary can really mess with focus or fury management they still have to shake it. With arm 23 sentinels on the turn they get stuck in then having tough and no KD makes them super hard to remove and if they only take a couple then I get vengeance attacks too. The extra 2 inch run when going first allows me to shut certain lists out of the scenario. I feel like the extra dawnguard speed is better than what we had before. I also like how he is able to stack up -2 def and -2 arm when going for an assassination run.

Really liking the look of G4 now CID out. Will be trying him in legion first out. Was never flash on him before though I had the model, looks cool who wouldn't. Now he has some teeth to go with the look.

I like him with an Aspis. Gets the focus for free so now he has shield guard and anti-magic right there for low low points. After that? I'm literally all over the map, I love the guy and he works with almost anything in any theme.

Any table experience to report yet? I was gonna put him to the test, but plans fell through this last weekend. I'm going to try out him with Dawnguard swarm for the souls and Artificers for the Sentinel delivery. Backed by Imperatus and a Banshee, hopefully I can just throw it all at my opponent and see if they can handle it.

Quick point on match ups for G4, the new Supreme guardian for skorne really messes with G4's soul collection feat turn via direct spirits. From the CID it looks like there will be at least 1 SG in every exalted list, possibly 2. Zaal 1 and 2 do the same with a larger bubble.

I'm almost thinking you just use your second list.

I'm almost thinking you just use your second list. Does Ret have a single list that can take on all the skorne lists out there? Honestly asking since I've only recently gotten back into Ret.
Shadows of ret Theme works really well against any tough/no knockdown infantry and can be backed up with decent arm cracking jacks. LoD could probably swarm enough weaponmasters to take down double derp-turtle. Not sure how forges would do since the derp-turtles out-threaten all of ret's models by at least 2".
Overall it seems like G4 wants to be the all-comer list in a two list format. He is able to do almost everything ret needs. Drop def and arm via spells, block LOS with cloudwalls, recursion with revive, arm buffing, and ghost walk to avoid terrain and a potentially ball-busting feat which forces your opponent to chose to give G4 a ton of focus next turn or not kill anything.
But when two (fairly popular) casters, and a battle engine (FA2, cmd 10 direct spirits) in a theme that can be efficiently ran by any caster now, can completely shut down G4's feat, it has to be something to consider when making a pairing. Granted Skrone has had really low showings in tournaments, but I think that might change after this CID. Seeing one Exalted theme list in a Skorne pairing may become the norm.

As a skorne player, I really don't think the soul collection matters. If his armor debuff was spammable, then maybe. But with skorne the problem usually isn't def, so lack of souls won't be too much of an issue.
