me was looking at all the Cavalry units a couple nights ago and I saw that long Riders also has a Cavalry axe but for some reason there's is 2 in long and I was all like what the hell? And then I saw that they were also eight boxes and they could get up to armor 20 without any buff from teh caster and they were all so tough and they could slam and they could also get to strength 16 under the stone and I was all like what the hell again Long Riders were 1" melee at the start of Mk3, but got changed to 2" in the Northkin CID, similarly Bane Riders went from 1" to 2" in the Bane CID.
This is the sort of thing that annoys about PP, they obviously know 1" is not enough for Heavy Cavalry, but they won't change it across the board.

Yet almost nobody uses them. Horthol also gives them boosted attack rolls on impact hits (at POW 14 and crit knock down) and on their slams. In regards to the stone you can either get the +1 str from the normal stone or +2 str or +1 spd from the Northkin Stone which both really help ratchet them up. Lastly with Madrak 2 you can give them an additional damage dice on their attack and impact hits which essentially turns them into POW 16 (in northkin theme) weapon masters that have a mount impact attack at pow 14 + 3d6. Its super fun haha.

I have played them many times but if nobody uses them as you say it is because the rest of the faction is bananas with stupid High stats all over the place

I don't think arm 22 Steelhead Cav with Gastone will be problematic for the game. There are plenty of combos that can reach similar or higher levels of durability for 5 or 8 wound models, and there are plenty of work arounds to it.
On the subject of Steelhead Cav, they need to gain 2" reach at least
Gastone can already have ARM 22 cav with Vengers (and ARM 23 once their CID drops), so I don't see any problem with allowing him to do the same thing with in-faction models.

Give stanis weapon master, and the idea of the coins for flavor seems really solid especially within mercenaries, give him 5 coins and then drop the tactician steelhead ability. Add the following paymaster coins options; 1. The tactician steelhead as an option. 2. Defensive Strike 3. Firing Solution
Steelhead cavalry, blunderbuss has a once per game spray 8 option, tough and steady.
No stat changes needed other than having a spray option.

If PM:money shot on damiano limits riflemen, stick it on a steelhead rockbottom and we have parity again.

I would rather keep Tactician as a passive ability, so you can benefit from it before having to activate Stannis.

Perhaps apply it to a unit so he can throw it on one flank while he buggers off to the other to grant the bubble.

The idea of the tactician working beyond his CMD range is splendid. I hadn't considered that when i posted my comment. The idea might be able to be used with other steelhead C solos as well.

I doubt they would give that kind of range to a solo, especially one with cav speed, but it would definitely help with the new artillery pieces.

Seeing the price tag on the Crucible Guard artillery has greatly dampened my enthusiasm for this CID.
