So I have been having a bit of a hiatus from my usual Cygnar and playing a bit of Mercs, I fancy giving Rhulic a spin but can't afford to go full Bossrum just yet, so am trying a more conservative approach with Gorten in Irregulars.
I played a couple of practice games against Kromac 2 using the list below, using proxies for the Warjacks and Gorten
Gorten - Sylys - Driller - Driller - Driller
Ragman Eilish Wrongeye - Snapjaw Grogspar Thor
Max Idrians - CA Artillery Artillery Eliminators Eliminators Aiyana & Holt
Was pretty happy with how the list worked, however I did not get as much use out of Grogspar as I thought I would, the pitch Gorten forward trick was not needed in either game.
I have tweaked the list slightly, I want to try the Press Gangers and use them to initiate the engagement, allowing me to save the feat for a later turn, once everything is in the mix, rather than using it to try and get an alpha.
I dropped Wrongeye as I want to max out on those free slots, and to fit the press gangers in.
I wanted Rhupert to give the Idrians Tough so they benefit more from Solid Ground, also pathfinder for Gorten could be invaluable on a spd4 caster.
The Thorn Gun Mages should add a bit more scenario play, and with Black Penny, Both Barrels and Death Field should be good as an insurance policy for finishing off enemy heavies.
Gorten - Sylys - Driller - Driller - Driller - Gunner
Eilish Ragman Thor Rhupert
Max Idrians - CA Max Press Gangers Artillery Eliminators Eliminators Aiyana & Holt Thorn Gun Mages
What do you think of the new list?

I am a huge fan of Gorten. The more I play him, the more I keep learning and my list that I have played for ever has finally changed a bit. I used to run 7 heavies on him. that has dropped to 4 with 5 Gun Bunnies added in. He's an excellent armor cracker and his scenario presence is amazing (I once scored 5 points in one turn off his feat).
As for your list, the big ones that stand out are Thor. I know this is going to sound weird, but without something like an Avalancher or Rockram, I don't find him that useful in Irregulars, Hammerstrike is a different story. I personally prefer Lanyssa for the threat extension outside of the feat turn. Following that same idea I really like Gorman for more damage output that can spread out to help with coverage, but the fact that he has so many options like troop killing, the cloud and Blind? So good. My solos usually are Eyriss1, Gorman, Lanyssa and Ragman. But I like the extreme damage skew option. I agree with your thoughts on Rhupert. Well, I agree with your thoughts on your list. The Grogspar thing is still new to me, so hearing someone that has had issues with him is nice to see.
The more I look at your list, the more I feel like it is a delivery system for Gorten, his feat and his battlegroup. And I like it. The Pressgangers have their way to keep going, Idirans are just good and everything else has their places. The only place I think could use some work is with your solos, but except for Thor (IMO), they are all good or have a very good reason for them. Eilish is great, but seems underutilized since Gorten isn't much of a spell slinger; his upkeep hate is nice, but underutilized in most match ups (IMO), so he might be a flex option. Although, he could be really useful in your meta, he's not that great for mine.
I need to stop now as I am just babbling on and on and probably not making much sense anymore.

Cheers for the feedback, was thinking about a Basher on Thor, but don't want to spend too much money yet, he was useful though in making the driller hit it's sustained attack, and it gives a bit more efficiency.
Eilish is nice I have found at just handing out puppet strings to units like Idrians or Aiyana to land the harm, or the driller so that you make sure you hit the first attack

I had 2 Bashers in one game each slam a model max distance and follow up deep into my opponent's army to them flack field to kill more stuff and then attack the model they slammed, killing them. That is roughly a 16 inch move. But, I run both of them on Gorten. If I run anything on Thor, it's usually an Avalancher (this needs a point drop so badly) to help support a flank with the ability to shoot out a fully boosted shot every turn. I always worry the Basher will go a little crazy and end up too far away or too deep in my opponent's army for Thor to really want to follow up.

I've been wanting to try a basher on Thor again, haven't played Thor since mk2 (he used to be one of my favs, along with Wrong Eye. Being able to field three different types of heavy/lights in one list make me happy.)
I like your list, though I personally would consider getting a few more bunnies in one way or another. Focus 5 can be a bit rough, bunnies or efficiency solos might be worth looking at.

I will second the Thor thought. He is good with ranged jacks generally but I couldn't imagine justifying him without the drive or Earthbreaker/Avalancher to benefit from tuneup. It just seems like a good way to throw away 4 points on one attack.

Maybe Lanyssa would be better, still provides a bit of focus efficiency with Hunters Mark, and improves the Drillers pathetic 8" charging threat.

Maybe I'm just a heathen, but I've used a repair action a handful of times ever. I almost always find that it's better to either a) cut your losses on the thing that needs to be repaired or b) attack with the model that would be repairing. Given that, the lack of access to the drive or JM benefits, and the close proximity he has to be in to use Tune Up, it just seems like a lot.
Obviously YMMV, but I haven't gotten 4 points of value out of Thor since mk2, when he was worth like 15.

With the list tanan built for Gorten, I get easy 4 points worth of work out of him pretty much every single game. Still probably one of the best lists I’ve seen / used for Gorten!

Well, you're both far smarter and better with the Rhul than I am, so I defer to your experience!
