I'm a newer/returning player with some experience under my belt. I'm an avid Rhul fan, they got me into the game during Mk1 before I took my years-long hiatus. However, I've just started making the foray into tournaments and the planning that's involved with them in list selection. I'm hoping to find information on good and bad matchups and potential pairings. I've asked around my local gaming group which has some high powered players and have spoken to some of the fellow Mercenary players there but I was hoping to reach a broader collective. Also, I'm hoping that this thread can be turned into something to talk about potential or odd pairings in the future for the Mercenary Boards.
I'm hoping to run Ossrum's Bunny Ranch/Swarm/Herd as my first list, in theme. I can see some of its strengths and weaknesses, but as I have not seen all/many of the casters yet, I'm hoping someone could shed some light on the matchups I should watch out for that I should not play this into and why (why's are good as they allow discourse ). Additional info on favorable matchups is also appreciated.
I've seen this flavor of list paired with Kingmakers pretty frequently, is there a reason for that? Is that the only strong pairing for this style of Ossrum list? What are some potential pairings for this Ossrum list and what weaknesses does it cover and have? I saw mention in another thread of Gorten being a potential pairing (not in theme) as an alternative to Kingmakers. What are the merits to this?
I realize there's a lot there above, so I appreciate those that took the time to read above and answer. You help is very much appreciated.

the Ossrum/Gorty pair offers a wide range of fair to really good matchups for you. You match the assassination potential of Ossrum with the general grindiness of Gorten. Here is my pair:
Ossrum (theme) Rocky Avalancher gunner x8 blaster x4
(an argument can be put in place for 2x artillery pieces in the list, replacing 2 bunnies of your choice. I have yet to test it but it seems fine when you cycle FFE, which makes the turn by turn math a little more dicey if your abusing energizer and bulldoze)
Gorten rocky driller driller max kayazy with UA eliminators eliminators aiyana and holt Wrong Eye and Snapjaw piper kell ragman orin
this list forms a solid brick of Kayazy that beocme very hard to kill (no KD and tough matched with DEF 15 under star crossed in melee). match this with a free heavy (snapjaw) to bully zones. Plenty of guns to take down key solos as well. This does not even put into account Gorten's solid batlegroup and game ruining feat that can be applied early to get scenario presence or later for maximum effect and enabling some pretty spicy assassinations. Gorten is prolly the only dwarf caster i would play out of theme, simply for SG and the ability to get tough on otherwise squishy models.

In general, I am an attrition/scenario player. Calculated assassination isn't my thing, so my Ossrum list hang back a bit more and contests with cheap bunnies while bombing shots from the artillery. This list plays very well into low to medium armor style armies, but suffers against anyone with a colossal or a heavy arm skew.
I tend to pair a heavy battlegroup focused Mag2 Kingmaker list with this because Escort + Unyielding + a bunch of jacks means that you can take down heavy armor relatively easily, while allowing a single unit of trenchers to dominate most opposing infantry choices. With my jack choices, I tend to lean towards Nomads, 1 or 2 renegades, and a mix of Buccaneers and Freebooters. A 6 point Buc can set up a 9 point nomad to take out a 20+pt heavy relatively easily, all while being a ton of decently high arm boxes for next to no points.

Thank you for your responses so far! Very insightful. I definitely prefer Gorten and/or Magnus both from an aesthetic and playstyle perspective so it's reassuring they pair so well with Ossrum.
I had played a list similar to the Gorten one you posted studderingdave. It was at the very beginning at mk3 and I was still new in my transition back to mercs. Seeing that makes me wish I had continued to put some time into it to really flesh it out. Tough, no knockdown Kayazy are definitely a nuisance.
Xintas, I see we have the same tendencies of style of play. I definitely enjoy attrition and grinding it out. I think it's because I still don't have the eye for assassination runs. I tend to win by scenario when I do win lol. I do enjoy some jack-heavy, managed metal fun too, and absolutely love the trencher models. So your option is definitely appealing. I might have to try it out! That and I just love the classic Nomads so that's reason enough right? Right lol. I'm curious if you think it's worth taking Stannis for free in that style of list for some mobile punch, or if it's better spent on some other tech like Orin or Kell.
Thanks again!

Purely my opinion, but Stannis is my 4th favorite solo to take for free in Kingmaker. Orin is nearly always first, because he has anti magic and anti HighDef/Stealth tech, which is hard to handle with Jacks or trenchers (trenchers are a little better but usually involve shooting a buddy in the back with a grenade). Kell is nearly always second, because he just deletes solos without stealth. Two shots, 6 damage, thankyoucomeagain. Third is one of the mechanics. I run very jack heavy, and the ability to quickly run in a free model to repair a broken system for one more turn of perfect functionality can be the difference between winning and losing. Stannis is 4th (or 5th, depending on how many slots I have/mechanics I need) because he really suffers from lack of Steelhead support and has the tragic curse of overpaying for flexibility of usage.
