So I've been with my soon to be wife for about 2.5 years now. She's a gamer at heart, but can be a little shy, so she often sticks with digital. When we started dating, I slowly began introducing her to more and more complex board games and tabletops. She has progressed very nicely from Legendary and Munchkin to Fief and Scythe. However, she has remained very standoffish about RPGs and Miniature war-games.
That is until about a month ago. Randomly one night, while I was running my weekly FATE session, she wandered over with her macbook, asked what was going on in the game, and injected herself into the current scenario. I asked no questions and simply threw another mini onto the map. It was one of those "No one move... don't even look at it... you'll spook it away..." sort of moments. Since then, she's been popping in and out of sessions. Then, as if this wasn't enough of a sudden swing in opinion, while perusing one of my FLGS for some new Warmachine minis, she randomly asked "Who's that?" And pointed at one of dozens of PP blisters on the wall. I cautiously gave her a brief but intriguing description. She took a second to absorb that, and then picked up a warjack kit and said "What about this?" At that point, I realized what was happening, and knew that I only had seconds to mentally prepare myself to exact a precision strike here, or else this sudden wave of interest was going to wash back out to sea, possibly to never return again.
I started with throwing a few faction names around, leading her eyes to a few of the more beautiful models boxes on the wall, and then worked that into a couple forces books, and lastly battleboxes. By the time we left the store, she seemed really interested. She was torn between liking Ret, Convergence, and Protectorate. Somewhere between the store and the house, she somehow decided on Protectorate. So I dove off the highway and flew over to another FLGS which was closer at the time. I ran inside and grabbed the Protectorate box, with Malakus, and the rest is history... sort of.
I've shown her how to clean, prep, and assemble models, how to prime, and how to paint. She has been enjoying everything so far, and has really been getting into researching the game in her own time. Recently, she has developed an interest in Haley 3, simply based on her backstory and abilities. She has, however, not played any games yet. She's sort of building up to that part. And I don't want to let her interests end at the hobby part without making it to the gaming part. I'm sure she'll love playing once she gets into it.
That's where you folks come in. I haven't played POM or even stayed current on their fluff and models for about 5 years. I'm aware of some of the newer releases, but that's about it. I used to play them back when I first started in 2006, but hell, that was MK1. My goal is to make sure that I'm at least starting her off on the right foot, while simultaniously making sure she likes the models involved, since currently the models themselves are the driving force behind her interest.
So, here's what she's got going so far:
She grabbed the battlebox, so she's got Malakus, a repenter, a revenger, and a castigator.
She liked vilmon, so she grabbed him.
And last night she grabbed 2 palidins of the wall, and the model that drew her to POM in the first place, Feora3.
Lastly, she grabbed an Indictor.
She is also in love with the Flamebringers.
Now, oddly enough, when you add all these models together, minus Malakus, you get a 50pt list, almost on the nose. My question is, is it viable? Obviously we won't start there. We'll use more of a journeyman format to get her going. But once she hit's 50pts, how's this list look to y'all? Is Feora3 tricky? I read her card, and she seems pretty cut and dry. Same with the jacks, paladins, and daughters. Some flashy tricks to pull, but nothing crazy or complex. Certainly nothing like Haley3.
TL;DR
My fiance just started POM, which I haven't followed in over a decade, and this is her first tabletop minis game. I'd love some advice to get her going. See above for models she owns and wants to own.
Thanks
