Okay so this model appears rather sketchy on its balance and before i start putting it together I was wondering if anyone had any tips. Does it have to be pinned? can i get away without pinning it? do the 2 small hoof connections keep it together enough?

It's not fully metal so it has been fine for me.

Mine is fine without pinning. The mounted model only the shield, spear arm, riders legs, sword, and tail are metal. The rider's upper body and the horse are all resin. The horses legs are quite thick too. I just used the post on one leg and its solid. Same with the dismount. Only the shield, sword arm, and loincloth are metal.

Don't make the mistake I did. Glue in the loincloth/belt before gluing on the shield.
But echoing above. I've had no problems with the contact points. I do believe I drilled in the base to peg it though. Can't remember off the top of my head.

Just assembled my 2 champions. I pinned the horse’s 2 feet to the large base.
Actually, if you line it up, the 2 hooves can fit over 2 of the pre-existing, cylindrical holds on the large pp base. So you can use those instead of drilling 2 holes wherever.
I pinned the base first. Put some orange paint on top of the pin, and marked where the feet would touch the pin. That way, I knew where to drill on the feet. You might need some cork to go under one of the feet.
Steady as a rock when I was finished. The model did not require much pinning after that. The kit is pretty user friendly with plenty of contact surface area for glue.

I assembled 2 this week. I pinned both hooves to the base for both horses. The rest I simply cleaned up and glued. No problems so far.

No pins here and no problems as of yet. *knocksonwood*
